  1. You should try a business or industrial area....the industial area's tend to be a tad more **** about their garbage though....and the garbage has a chance of being more dangerous... But computer stores and electronics stores....or even repair places are great places to check out
  2. They're brand names.... Perspex is less well known...but mostly used in signage... Perspex I'm fairly certain is acrylic but not all acrylics are equal It has good optical qualities...I heard about it from mazda using it for the dash panel of one of their cars....it looked black when the car was off but the lights were hidden behind it...It's more expensive than plexiglass on average... for templates you could probably live with cheap leftovers from a sign shop
  3. Branches and cardboard??? is this residential or business we are talking about???
  4. You could make it faux broken and use duct tape to hold it on.... depends on what your friend is into..if he likes the whole beat up punk guitars it might fly
  5. From frankies post I'd assume he reccomended what I've been holding off on Go through old issues of 2600 and phrack ect...they have some decent tips.... The old hacking magazines will give you plenty of pointers for diving and social engineering... A story I got from the counterpane newsletter http://lineman.net/node/view/270 Talk about Balls.... A couple of kevin mitniks stories are kind of fun too...not that I encourage doing anything illegal but things like this are all too easy...I yelled at my phone company for not verifying any info when I called...
  6. You should be able to pick up the stickers from any decent record store.... and I doubt that they could have any effect
  7. Actually I do that at work once in a while...I bug the IT guys to ask if they're tossing any computers or parts.... Dumpster diving is only good when they don't toss out food...so avoid areas that share a dumpster with a restraunt....diving in rotting food and disease is no fun Looking for electronics that shouldn't be bad...
  8. Do the dimensions include the battery??? solid state is cheaper and smaller... Tube amps aren't terribly portable...they tend to be heavy and not like moving too much at least compared to solid state... I hope you're not planning on doing a combo that size??? it would look a little silly sitting on a stack alone ....although 2 of them (1 pre amp 1 power) would probably look sweet As for batteries...car batteries are about the only option...the kind for RV's would be best as the voltage doesn't drop as much as it drains...Deep cycle batteries I believe they are called.... Also I believe some areas use higher voltage batteries...I think nissan was working with a 36 volt for their luxury models or something....a car audio place could probably tell you more about using that as a power source...maybe even wiring them in series You'd likely want to run it off the outlet as well...so you'd need an AC and a DC power supply section....I'd imagine you'd also want to charge the battery....I mean you could disconnect it to do it but that's a pain...SOoooo....things start looking complicated...and really expensive...batteries and power supplies aren't cheap... that and car batteries are pretty heavy... The 2 watt mini amps you get at the local guitar shop will cost less than a car battery and they are designed for portability
  9. Asking that you be an adult is not age discrimination...Some industries it's a requirement...Just like being drinking age to work in a bar... A lot of trades accept people as young as 16....customer related businesses usually require 18 and up.... there's not much reason to justify the potential issues with hiring people under 18
  10. They don't even really have to be near each other....(ie. strat) you could make a ghetto one by duct taping some single coils together out of phase
  11. This is inspirational...Admittedly my parents have been saying this for years...I have some ideas on how to acheive my goals...it's just a matter of getting there....*sigh* that's going to be a hell of a trip
  12. 2mm over the whole guitar.....with wood in the core.... That's a hella heavy guitar
  13. The ground is on the jack... hooking the bridge to ground is a convenient way to ground the strings which can be pretty noisy...the screws don't contribute to the noise...grounding them wouldn't help
  14. If it's a strat....the pickguard will cover it all anyway...so a couple chips will be irrelevant... You could always use box cutters
  15. Heh...Well you need something to hold it together...so maybe a rusty butter knife and some chewing gum fishbake made some nice stuff with a minimum amount of tools... The trade off would be how much time it takes and the quality...you can do something with a chisel that you can do with a router....the router is quicker...less work and looks better.....but if you still can't justify it the chisel will work
  16. I think it was litch that got a pile of flame and quilt for about $12 It's hard to find a good lumber place here...unless I want a big slab of oak or pine or 2x4's or chipboard

    Caps

Well a volume control is a voltage divider....the tone is a variable resistor... yeah almost the same thing but the voltage divider is like 2 resistors with a tap in the middle....and the other is a resistor you can change the value on the capacitor is the meat of the tone control....the volume doesn't need one though
  18. Hey...An update...Unfortunately I can't track down any blend pots locally...at least not through stores...I'm going to see if I can salvage something from a garage sale next week...then maybe go online if that doesn't work but in the meantime I got some switches...it sounds lovely...I have the switches mounted in a popsicle stick :-) I like most of the sounds...I also rewired it to have the 2 volumes work independantly...but I don't think I like that much I should have taken pictures of the process... I'm going to have another 4 conductor PU soon so I think I'll have this x 2
  19. Got it... thanks I think I'll try that one
  20. Well I did want to keep it as a seperate knob... I'm not entirely certain how I'd attach the series parallel afterwards....
  21. I do have the series parallel before the coil selecting...the coil select only works when it's in series...which is fine with me I usually do the schematics that only I look at...I usually forget things that my brain already assumes is there...so I didn't forget that I needed ground....I just forgot that nobody else would assume it was there :-) Bad habit So other than me forgetting to put the ground in is there anything else that stands out???
  22. Oh...hahahaha Yeah I forgot that...the top line would be the hot side the bottom would be the ground... it's only a small bit of the circuit so it slipped my mind I was basically just copying what I did at work...in my mind it looks like it might be good...but modifications might be necessary...that's why I put it up...someone else can look at it objectively when they aren't sleepy
  23. Okay... So here was my full idea...I was planning on getting someone to look it over and see if there's any issues before I go ahead anyway http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/view_i...H/picserver.gif it's got both the original plan and my new blending pot idea...
  24. Actually I was looking and I found blend pots... Basically 2 pots on the same axis...I think that could work i'd be curious if it could be done with a regular one though...and if linear or audio taper would be best
