  1. ok I recently was informed that 1 1/2 inches is too thin a body size to put a floyd in. DAMMIT! Wes already suggested that i put a quilted maple top over my flamed maple top. just one major problem-O. I started contouring already and I like the way it looks. And I spent 4 hours sanding by hand to contour it. And I am doing a light stain so I want to have something that will look dandy with a blue/green carriburst stain. So i figure I'll just put something in between bottom and top. this will not only make my routing for the P/U's etc easier but it will make my life making the deep tenon neck pocket easier. I dont know maybe rock maple, birdseye maple. I don't really like mahogany. any suggestions for the plan and the wood?
  2. nice JOB! enter it in the guitar of the month!
  3. nice guitar WES! I'll probably enter mine in next month's competition! Cutting out back tommorow! Started sanding. Man is sanding maple by hand a BIT** or what?
  4. today i started contouring the edges like a strat. But I'm having some second thoughts and I'm thinking about binding the edges with the lighted acrylic idea........ but I'm not quite sure. Should I experiment with the strat style outer contouring (Jem has a flat outside where as the strat is curved) Still debating about the arm rest. I dont think I'm going to do it. What do you guys think? Binding or contours? Contours may be cleaner. Besides I'm using acrylic for headstock inlay and neck inlay.
  5. thanx again guys! finally MAYBE I'll get some respect MAYBE.........
  6. Yeah! thats the idea very bright sounding! My only concern is that the ebony and the 1 meg pots might make it TOO bright sounding for my heavier rock i play occasionally..... hmmm maybe pau ferro.
  7. i bought for myself most of the stuff. Jack Johnson sessions miles davis. So What Jerry Garcia And David Grisman (yes a mandolin player.... a great one at that, play some jazz great album) John Mclaughlin Thieves And Poets Korg Px4 (MY PARENTS GOT ME THIS YES!!!!) Stevie Ray Vaughn Album. Fender 15' cable and celluloid picks. Im happy
  8. i dont have nearly enough files to complete the job I have a 1/4 file and a rasp.................:-(
  9. its 3/4 inch thick top flamed maple. and the back is flamed maple also 3/4 thick. It may sound thick for right now but I'm going to carve the two pieces like a strat but slightly different. Its not going to be that thick. As for the monkey grip I'm going to use the spindle sander to clean up most of it then I'll probably recut the outside non grip part with a scroll saw or something.
  10. thanks guys! I think this will turn out alright. It was pretty cool the guy the woodworkers shop built several guitars and made a multiple stain burst. So he told me an interesting method of putting the darkest color in a thin coat and leave it on for about a night and then sand the next day. So then You've got a dark background. then you wait a couple of days and do the same thing with the next lighter color. Then sand and then apply your final color and dont sand. then you put a clear on it and supposedly it works. I'm not sure if i can believe him but it sounds like it works. I mean he was an employee at the wood workers club so i guess he has a general idea. but i could be wrong. I'm going to experiment on crap wood before finishing my guitar. just thought i would throw the idea out there!
  11. i will fix it up but tell me how it looks por favor!
  12. BTW the grain lines up the pics do no justice. and the monkey grip sucks i know!
  13. This is my pretty standard JEM cutout. No big whoop yet. the strat stylings are somewhat small for now. The back is planed and drying the glue. Tommorow I'll fix up my ugly dremeled monkey grip and cut out the back. here are the pics. BTW guys. I just want to thank you for all of your support. watching my dream start to take shape is the best feeling i've gotten in several years. Thanks for putting up with my crap and allowing me to create this. or start to create it. Yes i know that i need to get rid of that neck thing. It was what was on the JEM template. And I figured that i just better leave it on because I dont want to ruin anything. Besides I can always cut it out once things get a little more grounded in the design. AGAIN thank you all! http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/481911
  14. Man that is so not cool. If people only had an appreciation for how much work goes into a custom guitar. Thats such crap man. If it ever turns up in CT I'll contact you. Unlikely but I'm willing to help, really sorry to hear about that! Satriani recently got his chrome guitar stolen thats pretty bad too.
  15. <<<< my way is proven to work. But thats with krylon spray paint lol. Don't know how it would fair on a guitar.
  16. yeah i dont see how i could possibly play jazz with 2 low strings. that would just be somewhat frightening sounding.
  17. yeah and i didnt even get near the 8 string page. Do the 8 strings come in hum/single and are they production or are they custom?
  18. thats a pretty sweet guitar, post a price though.
  19. the metal cast stuff is not what im talkin bout. used to be a real fav. paint of mine back in the moddin dayz. (personal favorite was the mirage)
