  4. Anywhere. B&Q, Wilkinsons, Woolworths, etc... Anywhere that sells screws. Id say try B&Q or something simular as they carry a huge range of screws with differing lengths and thicknesses.
  5. I once earthed a bridge by drilling a hole in teh bridge pickup surround and running some wire from teh bridge through the hole and onto the earth point on the pot. Sounded fine and looked ok cos u actually couldnt see it unless you looked real close. If its as beat up as you say, do it externally.
  6. MDF is good material for most templates, but acrylic templates do allow you to see through the material to the wood underneath. Some people may think thats not an essential requirement and for most people I would say they were right, but I like the idea of seeing the material im working on through the template. You can get away with 5-6mm acrylic. As for sanding acrylic, do you have a belt sander wes? surely that would be quicker
  7. Hehe, this is gonna sound geeky, but I learned that from Composer Howard Shore on the Lord Of The Rings DVDs, where he talks about the dulcimer in his soundtrack having sympathetic strings. Cheers for the info Greg.
  8. Ooo I like it dude! simple, elegant and it reflects the body style. This is coming together nicely. Cant wait to see the finished article. Make sure you take some shots of the neck repair tho. Id like to see how you tackle it.
  9. I just saw this thread. Slain... PM me if you still need a licenced floyd
  10. good stuff guys. pretty much what I thought. I especially like the "Avoid pointy headstocks with chambers" comment When youy say Sympathetic feedback, you mean like a Dulcimer? Or am i thinking sympathetic strings that are played at the same time there? I dont think chambers are for me with my music, but its all good and worthy of learning.

  12. its name HAS TO be something to do with an Axe. its got an axe head for a body (revolve the image 90 degrees to see what i mean) what was the name of the axe from David Gemmels "Druss The Legend" books? cos it sure reminds me of it
  13. in answer to your question... Glue Clamps A decent mating surface Paitence walk around the neck thru section three times in a clockwork fashion sprinkling salt beofre you as you go and chanting "OMMMMMMM". Sacrefice a McDonalds over the section to be glued. I find a big mac usually works best. Then apply the sacred sticky ointment to the surface to me glued and use THEE CREDITCARD OF GREAT FLATNESS to make sure the liquid is smooth across the entire surface. Apply the surfaces and conduct the 24 hour ceremony of HOLDING IT IN PLACE WITH CLAMPS OF DOOM, chanting and dancing in a clockwise fashion as you wait.
  14. WOW! One of the most asthesicaly pleasing designs ive seen in a while. The headstock doesnt fit, but the maple fretboard adds to its look, and the blue is lovely! I could imagine this in a trans purple and trans red as well. I think flat colours wouldnt do anything for it tho. Its gonna sound wierd whatever colour you do it in! Well done. Original and pleasing on the eye.
  15. Ive also seen people use Push/pull knobs to do this, though for practicality, they had one Vol knob for each pickup.
  16. OK, Im gonna ask a "serious" question in two or three ways so everyone gets what Im really asking. 1. What tonal qualities does Chambering actually make to the guitar? Can you give a bona fide example of it? 2. What musical styles benefit from a chambered guitar? 3. Does Chambering limit the choice of Pickup (in terms of the amount of distortion a pickup creates, for example, heavy distortion HBs compared to PAFs, and what about Actives like the EMG81)? I know its a bit of lame question in terms of the type of music I play (Chainsaw/hammerblow distortion), but im interested in the practical application of chambers and what they actually do. I expect that Blues/Jazz players would find chambers more appealing because of the lower distortion they play with whereas Metal and shread players would steer clear. Is that a fair comment? someone should retitle this thread "CHAMBERS 101"
  17. Now THAT looks kewl! one question? you put the Vol knob right next to the jack? Good idea for keeping the body heavy but I wonder if youre gonna have to rethink it because of the amount of space the jack socket needs. Also, it may be uncomfortablke to alter the volume in that position. I like to be able to reach the knob between songs and kill the volume. Still, its looking really kewl! keep it up mate!
  18. TURBOCAD 2D TUTORIALS Turbocad 2d exercises are on this page. there are 4 downloads you need to uncompress into the SAMPLES/TUTORIALS folder.
  19. Interesting... The Jay Turser warlord isnt listed on his web site!!! Perhaps a copy?
  20. GOOD GOD! I was quoted £8 ($15 ish) a foot for maple today! i must find someone cheaper!
  21. 1 word for ya.... EBAY Get a cheap one off there for playing with. It doesnt even have to work! you can always salvage the neck, bridge and parts from it and build a new body at some point in future when you feel confident enough, then you will have a decent strat and an old body to play with. My first guitar was a cheap strat copy i got for £20 cos the electrics didnt work. I learned a lot from it too. Good luck
  22. You could put a veneer on it. Once its back to wood, put the veneer on and dye it. Either that or do a swirl. Several people have done swirls on their RG and Gem bodies recently over in the refinishing forum. some of them look pretty kewl! Whatever you decide, take pics and post them!
  23. Isnt this to do with the density of the fibres in the wood? the less dense they are, the more susceptable to moisture, or summat?
  24. Dunno, you may have the right approach. Its well documented that Mahogany has more bass response than say maple, and that maple sounds bright in comparison. What would be useful for everyone is a list of general tonal qualities of different woods. I know that its not going to be exact, but noobs would learn quickly what woods do what to the sound. Perhaps a Mod could pin such a post in the reference area of the forums? what do you lot think?
  25. Looking good. Jackson King V style body with a Dean headstock. "Generic" is an ugly term. I think it looks grand, but to me, the body looks a bit small in comparison to the neck and headstock. The danger there is that the instrument will be neck heavy, which is a real pain in the behind!. Look at a few other Vs and determine a good balence for the length of the fins. Also, is it Neck Thru/Set neck or bolt on?
