  1. I'm currently wrapping up my Orion project and have a 5 string neck-through bass on request pending a deposit. I've been watching your 6 string project closely because of it.
  2. I'm going to start on a neck through bass with a laminated neck. I know I need a jointer, but I don't have the funds or space for a floor model. Will a Porter Cable 6" for $250 work for a few projects?
  3. Thanks! I finished spraying color yesterday, and clear starts tonight so this is the long break before finished photos
  4. Thanks guys! I know it's just another tele, but it was fun to build.
  5. I'm just curious what the purpose of the neck stripe is since it's a dual action truss rod. Other than how awesome it looks of course.
  6. Not a bad start. Much better to ruin some cheap wood for sure but you pulled through and kept going. The paint looks pretty cool to me. It a great idea to overthink the project before you make any cuts, but I started measuring the wrong side to make the last cavity too so...
  7. Thanks and no particular inspiration that I can point to. I sketched out some designs a few years back that I'm finally making a reality. If you are referring to the Sully's garage guy, then I'm honored. I've spend quite a bit of time watching the videos and picking up info, although I'm trying to avoid tacos at the moment.
  8. That's what I'm going for, fingers crossed.
  9. The only glue on the frets is to fill the slots on the side. I think what you are seeing is dust that remained after I pulled the tape off the ebony. Thanks!
  10. Very impressive work! That cavity looks fantastic. I could have used a dremel base like that 2 days ago.
  11. Thanks! Everything so far is a near heart attack. I thing I'm at the point of being able to breath a little bit now. I put the first coat of sealer on a few minutes ago. Here are some progress shots. A couple of flubs: The ebony stain soaked into or found it's way under one of the mop blocks, Also the first 1/16" switch route went horribly wrong. It looks like my three year old scribbled it out so I had to double the width which looks okay. The fretwork is done and I attempted the semi-hemi and it turned out well enough. That is super time consuming. It's also the first time to make a cavity and cover from scratch which was strangely satisfying. They cut my mirror chrome logos backwards. "They said they don't remember cutting them in reverse"....ya think? Ha! The joy of MDF template making!
  12. Too late. I didn't seal it and I used wood glue instead of epoxy
  13. This is the one that I'm using to test several new techniques all at once (set in neck, laminated scarf, curved top glue-up, tinted lacquer fade, block inlay, So far it's gone okay although my table router has a bad habit of tear out and did a number to the alder and maple top. Fingers crossed that the wood filler doesn't act like screw-up highlighter. The goal: My inlay skills as tested on scrap clearly were not up to this challenge so I went for plain old MOP blocks. Where I left off a year ago: I think she approves! Color test:
  14. I started this a while back, and back porch lacquering was such a headache that I shelved it for over a year. I was about to sell all of my tools but decided to try some satin I had sitting around before giving up. With that said, I'm back at it on another project. Since these pics I've updated the tuning machines and set it up properly.
  15. I've been gone for a while after getting frustrated with lacquer, but came back like a freight train and am finishing the 2nd of 2 projects I put down over a year ago. This one is a set neck. The back of the neck going to be trans blue (flamed) while the back of the body will be black. I've already dyed the neck black and will sand it later today. The blue will go on as tinted lacquer. All of that to ask, can I seal the neck after sanding and still have rock solid adhesion in the neck pocket or should I wait to seal the body and neck together?
  16. The Horny Grinder! I love it! So you are sanding up to 12,000 before you add any finish?
  17. They would fuss, bitch, yell, kick chairs and slam doors. Done and done
  18. Wow! That ends that head scratcher. Water in the glue, huh? That makes sense. Any recommendation on epoxy? I am about to place a Stewmac order. Maybe their slow setting epoxy? @Scott - I was thinking about trying to find some knobs that look like little milk glasses. WWOCCD? (What Would Orange County Choppers Do)
