dmic Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Hello, I posted this to the electronics section but maybe this chat is more appropriate....... I'm currently designing a guitar used for tapping - it will lay flat like a lap steel. I would like to design the neck to be very responsive to any slight finger touch and was thinking about positioning a pickup near the headstock and/or maybe even taking up the first fret area. Are there any guitars out there that use this idea already or something similar? Thanks, Doug Michael Quote
Alchool Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I don't think that it will work. The notes produced by the string come from the side of the bridge. If put your finger on the second fret, and you have the pick-up in the first, you'll hear a very high note, because the pickup will capture the vibration of the part of the string near the nut. Quote
westhemann Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 i agree.as soon as you go past the pickup with your finger you cut off all sound.try it with a regular guitar by fretting at the 22nd fret and plucking at the 12. Quote
dmic Posted April 27, 2003 Author Report Posted April 27, 2003 Hello, I didn't think about that but it might sound interesting with the higher notes.... anyways I wonder if there is anything else I can do besides using active pickups to make the neck extremely responsive to tapping. Whatever happened to Stanley Jordan? I wonder if he does anything special to his guitars? Thanks for the info on the last several posts... Doug Michael Quote
