feylya
Just wondering what hearing protection (if any) people use when they're gigging/practicing/making lots of musical noise. I don't use any at the moment and my ears have been getting sorer and my hearing is getting worse so I'm kinda looking at getting something, even if it's only the foam plugs. TGwaH
If you're just playing at home, I would think that foam ear plugs would work the best. It is my understand that the ear plugs the pros use block out a good deal of the sound, and they have to pipe in some sound so the band can play together. Sindlei
i use reusable earplugs that i bought at cvs, they come on a shoe string, that you can disconnect, works very well.
Gorecki
Any sound reduction ear plug will do that is based on decibel reduction. Try to avoid those poly based (squeeze it and it expands in your ear) plugs that are intended to be a sound blocker not a reducer. Most are relatively inexpensive. Ragasguitars
Silencio They are blue reusable plugs, they work great and are hand washable with soap and warm water. I have been using the same pair for over a year like 3 times a week, wash them frequently and they still work great. Sindlei
i used to use foam ear plugs, worked fine for what i wanted them for...noise reduction, i'm not so concerned with the quality of the sound i'm hearing, as long as i know it's ok without ear plugs. Devon Headen
http://www.proplugs.com/ ← Anyone use these? They look like they would help a little, but do you think it's enough? Also, would hearing damage occur in the low frequencies? I really need to wear hearing protection, but I've been putting it off a long time. Daniel Sorbera
you shoudl deffinitly check these out. There ear plugs that dont cancel the highs. So it sounds just as good only 20db quiter!. That same company makes some prety wicked custom fit earphones that lower the noise level like 30db but everything still sounds exatly the same just quiter. Those ones from musicians friend are there cheapo disposable ones but they still work reasonably well, much better than any "regular" ear plugs.
