User01
Ok, here we go Well i was planning to get an emg-85 neck pickup to acompany my emg-81 bridge pickup. it seemed like the perfect combination but then...i came across the emg-89. the emg website says thats its pretty much an emg-85 with a coil tap option. if that is the case, then this is the most ideal pickup combination for me... (emg-81 & emg-89). but i just wanted to make sure of a few things before i did buy it: 1.) Has anyone tried the emg-89 and if so, what did they think of it? 2.) When in humbucker mode, does it really like the emg-85? 3.) The emg-89 comes with special vol and tone pots, will i be able to use that to control the emg-81 pickup aswell? so basicly i want both pickups to be controlled by the 1 volume pot and 1 tone pot. thats all i want to know for the moment i would be extremely grateful if you could help me out with this cheers user01
krazyderek
i'd ask emg directly, they have diagrams for almost any combination of their pickups, if you email their tech guys, they'll probably send you the diagram for wirring the 85 and 81 anyway you want
lovekraft
AFAIK, all EMG actives come with 25K pots - there shouldn't be any issues using them together. Here's the 89 wiring sheet: http://216.26.190.134/downloads/wiringdiagrams/EMG-89.pdf EMG has wiring sheets for most all their pickups on their support page.
