ward
Hi everyone, These are my selfbuilt guitars. sorry for the crappy pictures, phonecamera. The orange one I'm very pleased with. It has: Mahogany body Maple neck Seymour Duncan Trembuckers More and better pictures here .. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/perk...aar/githead.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/perk...aar/gitbody.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/perk...r/gitneckpu.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/perk...ar/gitbhead.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/perk...ar/gitbbody.jpg But the white one has its problems, As you perhaps can see here The bridgehumbucker was placed too close to the tremhole. The light basswood couldn't hold the tesion and broke. The picture makes it look even worse. I want to rebuild this guitar with the hardware in it, because I liked the sound very much so it's a shame to not make something decent of it. What do you think of this ?? I like tele's alot, but have never seen a tele with a floyd rose Is that for a reason or haven't I looked the right place ? And what I wanted to ask too, what could be a good way of not using the locking nut. I feel a bone nut gives a nicer sound. In the second picture you can see that I placed a very small bone nut between the fretboardend and the floyd rose locking nut. But can it work good without the locking nut ? Thoughts ?? Suggestions ?? Ward
guitman32
Welcome and very beautiful guitars!! Its a shame about the white one though. I have never seen a tele with a floyd, but that doesnt mean that I wouldnt like to! Im sure youve got some purists red in the face... :-) Finally, I think your solution with the bone nut in between the locking nut is fine, so long as it works for you. If you want to go a different route, you might try some locking tuners. Some common brands are Schaller, Spertzel and Planet Waves. All three are quality pieces, and once locked, will keep your guitar in tune. I personally use schalller locking tuners, and they work like a charm...that said, however, you will probably still have some tuning issues as the nut friction when doing big dives on the floyd will keep the strings from getting back to full pitch. Im sure others will give you some more input on the matter.
mledbetter
Really nice looking stuff! I was giong to say the same thing about the locking tuners.. You would want to go with a roller nut or a graphite nut if you ditch the lock nut.. The roller one would be the most bulletproof. But the bone nut with the lock behind it is probably the best solution to ensure the strings don't move.. although.. there is an advantage to the floyd nut.. the tone of the open string should be closer to the tone of the fretted string. The tone of the bone ( ) is gone once you fret.. so i dont' know.. if it were me, i'd probably just stick wtih the lock nut. There are floyd equipped teles out there.. i can't remember the last one i saw.. probably my buddies late 80s pacifica.. total shred machine (back when pacificas were expensive) but it's a tele body. I don't think you could go wrong with the design in your picture.. You'll get a little more even bridge sound too not having the HB touching the bridge.. Welcome! GregP
I like the design of the 'messed up' one. It reminds me a lot of the Phil Collen signature guitar, in a good way. Welcome to PG!
westhemann
looks like you didn't get the pivot studs placed correctly...you spaced it too narrow,so the leverage pushed the bass side sideways during use. or maybe you tried to push it over by force to fit? HeavnerGuitarWorks
I like tele's alot, but have never seen a tele with a floyd rose Is that for a reason or haven't I looked the right place ? Nice guitars. Google (Images) for "Fender HMT". They had a line of "Heavy Metal" Strats and Teles back in the late 80s or early 90s that had Floyds on em'. I've owned a couple of the Teles and loved them all. Single F hole, humbuckers, and a Floyd... can't beat it!
Mr Alex
izzy stradlin from guns 'n roses had a tele body with floyd rose, but a pointy headstock(might have been a vester, i saw one like it the other day)

He used it in the Sweet Child O' Mine video.
ward
Thanks for the tips guys. When looking for the hmt guitars I found this awesome one .... Very nice picture !!! In an other picture it looks a bit less to my taste. I don't dig the headstock and the slanted neckpickup. And I definitly want a birdseye maple neck and fingerboard. So, more of the picture JTM45 suggested but perhaps with the f-hole ? Jtm45, have you seen more/bigger pictures of this one ? And what is the neck profile of a evh like ? (Westheman, the picture doesn't show what's really happening. The studs are leaning forward and not as it seems in the pictures sidewards.)
