I ordered some .22 mf orange drop caps, same mf rating as like PRS's, etc. But when I got them, I noticed, HOLY COW these things are HUGE compared to the caps I'm used to seeing in guitars! Anyone know why?

That website won't come up for me now. Part of the difference may be that Orange Drops are high-voltage film caps usually used in guitar amps, while the normal "guitar caps" are regular old any-voltage ceramic disk caps. Like Paul said, high voltage caps are a LOT larger (because the dielectric layer must be thicker) within a cap type, and it may be that film caps are just bigger than ceramic caps as well - I don't ever use ceramic caps for anything but a bag of 'em for guitar tone controls, so I can't really compare :D.

They're probably fine. Film caps are typically sizeable. It certainly couldn't hurt to try them out in the guitar. Worst case: they don't work as you had hoped and your replace them. Better yet, you could test them with a multimeter.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think it speifically said "for guitar" it was just on a guitar parts site... so I assumed. I got it from specialtyguitars.com and I think it was like 80 cents or something??

Yeah, a 600V Orange Drop cap would be used as a coupling cap in a tube amp. No wonder it's so big! :D

Once again, Paul nails it - that's a coupling cap for a tube amp. No worries though - so long as you can make room for it, it'll make a mighty fine tone cap (just not any better than a tiny 50 volt film cap).
