TenderSurrender
no.1 is the best one. but 3 is great, too +1 Definitly like the look of 1 but the sharper detail on the flower on design 3 also makes me like that one! ~~ TS ~~
rokeros
Neither, sorry. But I am not a big fan of the artwork. I was thinking more on the lines of http://fs7.deviantart.com/i/2005/177/7/f/l...by_mattahan.png I think its the folwer thaT bugs me. Ruins everything. Everything is green and black then all of a sudden red with pink??? Edited March 2, 2006 by rokeros
neocon58
I think its the folwer thaT bugs me. Ruins everything. Everything is green and black then all of a sudden red with pink??? Aww, don't say that! I thought it looked boring as sh!t with the old design, and I stated all along I wanted it to be an unusual guitar. I actually like the flower. Sure, the green and black is cool but when the flower hit's you it really brigtens up the guitar. I could paint little red flowers next to the headstock logo to even it out a bit. Nitefly SA
i think for the perfect one you need to add the detailed leaves from 1 and the detail flower from 3 together
TenderSurrender
If your going for this flower power style jem now, why dont you try and mimic the FP? dont see many people copying those, and it will fit into your theme nicely ~~ TS ~~
neocon58
To be honest I really don't dig the FPs! and theres kind of a satisfaction to doing something different, albeit only a slight difference. TenderSurrender
Ok heres some other ideas just incase your not certain... Both kinda follow a jungle/floral idea Picture one Picture two ~~ TS ~~ Edited in accordance to pic posting rules, sorry mods Edited March 5, 2006 by TenderSurrender
neocon58
I like the look of that first one! How do you guys get your templates perfect size and shape? I've used a bandsaw to get a rough cut, but still need to sand down to the lines. I'm guessing I will just have to use a combination of hand and belt sanding. I should have bought a damn template, I could have had my body half finished by now!
Nitefly SA
a drum sander also helps a lot for getting those perfect 90 degree sides, and into those cut aways, that second one would be a lot better if the inlay matched the color scheme
neocon58
Hmm, we might have a drum sander at my school. I was gonna do the easier parts (the basic shaping and whatnot) with something like this: http://www.shopfoxtools.com/images/W1708.jpg The harder bits, like the cutaways and whatnot will require a drum sander or dremel type thing I suppose. When you speak of a drum sander, you are referring to something like this, I assume?: http://www.intarsia.com/Flex-Drum-Sander.jpg Edited March 5, 2006 by neocon58
marksound
I thnk he means something like a RoboSander or a spindle sander. When I read "drum sander" I thought of this. BTW: - ONE PIC PER POST., except in the Tutorial sections, where you are allowed up to 10 pics per post. - DO NOT HOT-LINK TO PICS NOT OWNED BY YOU AND ON YOUR OWN SERVER. Use the URL tag instead to provide a link to the pic.
Nitefly SA
yeah, marksound thats what i meant, thanks Neocon-if your school doesnt have a spindle or robo sander, you can buy an insert for your drill press like in the first link that would be pretty inexpensive. neocon58
Shaping of the template is now done. I still have to rout the cavities, etc, but I think I will wait until I've got my blank. A relative has chipped in some money as a gift, so when it hits my bank account I have enough money for the run home! (enough money to cover pretty much everything else I need to buy!) I still need the bridge pickup, body blank, some misc items (screws, pots, etc) and paint (spraycan primer/filler, spraycan metallic green (booyah!)). I'm gonna be borrowing other paints for the design.
neocon58
Just whacked the green on, the photos don't do the colour justice. This is just sprayed on, prior to sanding or clear. It's a metallic green, btw. Edited March 18, 2006 by neocon58
neocon58
Damn phone cameras. It looks like complete crap compared to real life. I'll grab a digital camera and take some better shots soon. You can't see the metal flake at all. It looks awesome under proper room lights or sunlight. The back and sides of the guitar are going to be this colour, as is the front, however much of the front is going to be covered by the design. neocon58
Me so funny. Me overspray clearcoat onto rosewood board. lolz. Me going to try clean fretboard with metho or turps.
neocon58
After two days of work, I have decided the colour I chose is absolutely freaking disgusting. I'm now kicking my self for being stupid enough to consider such a colour. It dosen't go with the theme at all. I've gone back to the shop and picked up some darker greens that are a closer match to the pickguard. I'm gonna be respraying the headstock soon. I'm glad I got the better colour now, but still fuming that I already wasted my time spraying on that sh!tty colour.
Duff Beer Man
Its funny how when u get so pumped about a project that u can trick urself into likeing something u dont.
neocon58
lol yeah I know. I was so set on that colour, then it just hit me, like '*** did i choose this colour for???'. I've sprayed the darker green on just now, it already looks better up against the pickguard.
rokeros
Yer, I agree with the green. For a moment when I first saw it, I paused, thinking that the ibanez was a tubescreamer lol!
TenderSurrender
I didnt mind the old colour but this is your project not mine Got any pictures of this new colour? Im interested to see how this new one looks!! ~~ TS ~~
neocon58
I'm much happier with this colour. There are a few weird bits on the headstock, which will be covered by the design anyhow! ...and while were at it...
rokeros
ahh,, now I see why you chose that colour...
