Thoughtless 7 Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 This is kind of a 2 question thing... first off, I'm looking to buy these just to see how they sound compared the the Evo and the Blaze, but i want something that will sound nice in the neck position with them. Also, has anyone tried using an Evolution in the neck position? If so what is the sound like? Cheers! Quote
Thoughtless 7 Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 Man, i knew that would be said. A good neck pickup for 7 string guitars are lacking somewhat =( Quote
Sambo Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Uhhhh.... air norts are good neck pickups? I assume by your choice of bridge pickup you want something aggressive? try the Blaze neck. Or get a SD invader 7. S Quote
Thoughtless 7 Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 I have a couple of Nortons paired with the Evo and i'm just not diggin' it. I have a Blaze Neck which i am going to pair up with the spare Evo i have and see if that sounds any better. I might just get another one of each (air and blaze) and swap them around. I really like a look at the Blaze middle, but i don't have any guitars with a middle pickup >_< Quote
marksound Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 For those who don't know, Dave Weiner (Steve Vai) has recently taken delivery of a new Ibanez LACS 7 string with some of the pups being discussed here. Maybe that will help? Quote
Thoughtless 7 Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 (edited) Isn't the Fred the PAF7? EDIT: I didn't know they did a 7 string model of the FRED? Unless this is like a custom one-off? Edited September 14, 2006 by Thoughtless 7 Quote

Weiner said DiMarzio had an extra laying around from a run for Satriani, so he asked for it. Maybe if there's enough demand they'll go production. Quote
Thoughtless 7 Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 Yeah, but until then i might actually get a PAF7 and see how that sounds with the D-Sonic7. Quote
Canuck Brian Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 take a bridge model JB 7 and stick it in the neck. I did that with two of my Ibanez's, once by fluke (wrong pickup received) and once on purpose after i plugged in the first guitar with the wrong pickup. Quote
