Great work man! The Wenge adds a nice touch to the contrast of woods. The top looks nicely sanded (over sanded, infact) but it looks like behind it needs a little more work. Careful with sanding too high before actually getting to the finishing phase. You may end up scratching the body before then and have to either start over on sanding, or pop those scratches out with heat.

hey

i havnt been doing much to it

just been putting off the neck pocket haha

any addvice for doing to neck pocket im going to route

it and my dad keeps trying to explain the templete i need

to do for it but his explaination seems really weird

(he's saying the templete needs to be 15 cm wider

than the pocket to accomadate for the router)

he could be right but the pictures of templetes ive

seen on stewert mac for example have been as

snug as the pocket itself

the alternative is that i go to a luither and get

him to help/do it for me but living in sydney there

arnt many and the experiance of me doing it myself

would be better

sorry about the long post but if u have any addvice then do share thanks

today i set up a lathe rig (not sure on spelling)

using a drill and an angle grinder

sounds dodgy i know but its worked fine

i got some of the walnut and made a volume(the bigger one)

and two tone knobs

i though id give it a go a they worked out better

than metal ones i would have had to buy

thx DFW go for it heaps of people have done it

itll good reat with that double bass thing of urs

well i when to work and my dad wasnt happy with the mill design

so him being an engineer spent goodness knows how long to come up with a better one

he then made a close to perfect knob of of some of the left over wenge

i think it looks heaps good but i think that if i made better ones out of the walnut it would look better

wat do u think???

again sorry for the poor photo

i think i new a new camera :D

IMHO The ones your Dad made look nicer. The contrast of the Wenge on the Walnut looks more interesting than the same color knobs.Especially with the Wenge in the body. Definately better than metal knobs, gives it a more classy look.(Lighter in weight too!)

Visually,to my eye it would look nicer if your lower cutaway went in more than your top one,in other words more access to the 24th fret.

But if thats what you want,It looks nice! :D

yeah i jsut came back from the work shop (its 11:30 at night here dont think the neighbours will be happy)

i made a set each of the wenge (although there a bit tall)and walnut perfectly and they both look heaps good

i hear wat ur saying about the contrast but i cant go past the look of the walnut

yeah goat i may look weird due to the fact ive been to lazy to cut that long bit of wood were the necks suppost to be

plus its kind handy to use when putting the body in a vice without denting the body itself

i have no idea wat ones to use ill put pics up of them on the body (on of the wenge ones

looks alot darker i still have to polish up the other 2)

and a pic of the rig ive got for those interested.....

Looks pretty good so far to me. I'm not sure if it's because you're not done sanding or if you meant it to be like that, but the body looks a bit lumpy around the edges (mostly right behind the bridge). You may want to look into using a template and router to cut the outline; it takes a lot of work out of sanding the outline by hand.

I'm with goat on moving the treble side cutaway back towards the bridge (as it is, it makes the shape look kind of awkward). I would even consider cutting off the whole lower wing and re-gluing it a few inches back, if possible.

Actually, this looks a lot like my first builds, so I am going to offer a big piece of advice that would have made my guitars fifty times better: take your time, and make sure it is right. Don't rush to play it (that is always the hardest part for me).

Other than the body shape issues, it looks like you're doing good work so far, and I really like the knobs! Keep us posted on the rest of the build!

mmm i like the way it is at the moment

i would contenplate cutting of the lower wing but the back is all one piece

so im guessing cutting and regluing it would make it weak as ....and all im wiling to do is guess

but yeha i happy with it for my first build

i think im going to got with both the wenge and the walunut knobs

in my wiring im going to have 4 knobs so i think 2 of each would look pretty cool

and if that dosnt work out i can always make more :D

Tis a very fine looking instrument you have there. Personally I'd go with the Wenge knobs on all four pots, they contrast much better and having all four would flow better than 2 and 2. Also I don't know about the brand name thing, Timberlan is too close to a big shoe company, Timberland.

Good luck, i can't wait to see more progress.
