Campylobacter Posted January 29, 2007 Report Share Posted January 29, 2007 Hi! I'm starting my first build from scratch. It's going to be a 5 string fretless and here's the woods I'm using. In the background there's african mahogany and bubinga and in the front wenge and castello. Some specs: scale: 35" body: mahogany back / bubinga top neck: wenge fingerboard: castello pickup: hopefully home-made bridge: hopefully home-made too (from wenge) The look I'm going for is something like this. The pic is just a quick mock-up so everything is just thrown in to show how it looks like. I'm going to dye the castello fretboard black and probably do a faux binding and the wave-inlay. And because the bubinga and mahogany are pretty much the same color I thought I'd dye the bubinga red to make it stand out better. Probably a faux binding in the joint also. So, what do you think? String spacing will be 18mm or less. Idea for the bridge is actually stolen from AV-Bass. This guy builds awesome basses, check him out.
