  1. I can only ditto what's been said so far. that neck is most fancy!
  2. Now that is one very nice Junior! top notch finish job too!
  3. hadn't checked here for a while, but dang hoogle this is one heck of a build! it looks really really good. the carves are looking great too, and the burst matches it really well. your builds have really improved as well.
  4. well Travis as maurits allready said we used rasps, spokeshaves, planes and a lot of elbow grease, the electric drum sander . today we started carving at around 11 AM and we called it a day at 5:30 PM (17:30) so there's a good 6 hours in there... tomorrow will be a day of sanding and rounding over the fretboards at the edges as they are a bit sharp at the moment.
  5. that is one good lookin' bass! slowly I find myself liking more and more ERB's...
  6. haven't been around for a bit, but damn this guitar is looking good now! can;t wait to see the whole thing together and oiled up! have you considered Tru-Oil for a finish? should be a bit more hard wearing than Danish and looks nice too. (I just made a Zebra door stopper out of a cut-off and sealed it with shellac and plan on whacking some Tru-Oil on it, looks great so far.) keep up the good work!
  7. to make cutting easier you could drill holes at set intervals and then join them up. I did it on my Zebra wood build and it worked out fine. but it did take some careful routing as it did Tear out like nobody's business if you didn't watch out... looks great though! btw always wear a mask with zebra wood that stuff is nasty!
  8. it looks like an ACG Skelf, I like it! keep up the good work.
  9. looks fab. not too keen on Metal guitar shapes, always a bit too pointy for me, but I'm loving the Zebrawood. I see what Travis is saying, especially comparing the Zebrawood you've got, which is nice and straight, to mine which I'm using on my current (and seemingly everlasting nearly a full year from when I started designing!) http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...nt=DSCF1507.jpg as you can see it's much much wilder, and consequently a real pain to route!
  10. I think you can wet sand Tru-Oil but you use the oil as a lubricant rather than water. otherwise I'm sure you could Micro-Mesh it.
  11. I was under the impression that a good way to use Tru-oil was by using a Shellac Sealer first. then applying the oil. I plan on doing a Zebra-wood bass like this. well a test piece first ofcourse. using Rustins Shellac Sanding Sealer as the shellac sealer.
  12. Allright, it's been a while but here's an update on the basses! after being on Hiatus for a while due to finals etc. we finally got cracking again. Bass 2 has the Perimeter routed and the roundover is on there too which makes a world of difference. bass 1 is currently being routed and and after a slight run in with some tearout I'm going to finish it up today and see what I can do to rescue it. Bass II: http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...II/P1012606.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...II/P1012605.jpg as some of you will notice there is some router burn going on there but nothing some sanding won't cure I think, and we had some perculiarity surrounding the roundover bit which maybe somebody can explain. going along the grain it all went fine but going across the grain (end grain etc) it was leaving a ledge which would make you think it was set too deep. so we set it more shallow and did it thus and then we'll sand it down to a nice smooth edge. The tearout on Bass 1 is not as dramatic a I first suspected after some cleaning I think it will be salvagable with only minor design changes. The Tearout on Bass 1 and it on the bench with the template (which is also slightly different from bass 2's as a slight mishap in the cutting called for it.) http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...0I/P1012608.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...0I/P1012609.jpg
  13. looks great TravisMoore! maybe a Tru-Oil finish? supposed to be a bit more durable than Danish oil. I'm goign to give it a shot on my Zebrano four build.
  14. that's what I would do, otherwise stick a roundover bit in there, that would round off the edges but sandpaper is the safer option. it's looking good btw keep up the good work.
  15. looks great. the eye of Ra inlay is very cool too, it always reminds me of the Alan Parsons Project album Eye in The Sky. (which is a good thing as I like that album)
  16. let's all get a grip here people. None of us represent any company in any way, at least not one involved in this discussion. so let's concentrate back on what PG is all about, people building their own guitars and helping others who are busy in the process of doing so. let's not bicker and argue over who made this and who made that who should apolagise etc etc. as this gets us nowhere.
  17. looking good. that carve in the heel looks fantastic, keep up the good work! and as for the moser dealio, take a look at it, and just hope it blows over as you don't build direct copies and evenso you're not even selling the Desiree right?
  18. that's going to be pretty cool, 'specially with the string through body design.
  19. saw the 36" on TB which looks absolutely fabulous, and the shortscale is pretty cool aswell. looking forward to seeing both fully oiled and buffed out!
  20. wish I could hear that bass from the video's but it only seems to be noise.. but it does look a stunner!
  21. I would've called the neck a goner since it broke there, cleaned out the tenon and cut a new neck for it. but if you reckon you can do a solid repair go for it! and as for the finish I'm always a sucker for a nice Cherry SG... however that Natural burst Ltd is pretty nice too (much nicer than the gibson natural bursts IMHO)
  22. Tune-O-Matic bridge, it's the style most Gibsons use. so a bridge and a stopbar.
  23. so I take it you carved the neck up before you glued the body wings on? could we see some pics of the back? and with what did you finish it? is it a highly buffed oil finish? or a Poly/Nitro finish? but besides all that, it looks fabulous! I really like your design and the fact all the sandwiched pieces show on the arm countour
