ihocky2
It is just inlay banding. It was actually easier to find before they redisgned their site. Luckily the store is about 3 minutes from work, so I found it on one of my excursions and knew right away I was going to use it for something. I am not sure what type of wood it is, I think something soft and cheap like Balsa, but it works nicely. ihocky2
So almost a year later I have a finished result. I actually finished this about 1-1/2 months ago, but just never got around to taking pictures. That an I lost the knobs and took 3 weeks to find them. I actually finished spraying it back before Christmas. I gave it 6 weeks to cure and then while removing the surrogate neck had something slip and took a nice chip out of the finish. Luckily it was nitro and easily drop filled, but still took a while to do and then another 6 weeks to let the fill cure. The two indoor pictures show the true color, the outdoor ones I had a hard time to keep from getting washed out. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/iho...er/DSC05870.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/iho...er/DSC05875.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/iho...er/DSC05863.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/iho...er/DSC05862.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/iho...er/DSC05857.jpg
reantel
I like the red dot inlays. You should have put red LEDs in your cutout to make it glow red. Looks good.
ihocky2
The one thing I am trying to figure out is why the first picture looks like I cut the neck profile with a beaver. In the picture the sides look really wavy, when in real life they are dead straight.

That guitar is seriosly cool, but I can't figure out whether it's an 80's shred guitar or a snazzy blues tele. That cutaway (which is completely awesome) screams shred along with the headstock, but the double single coils say blues. What do you play on it? what pup's are they? I love it. Traveler
seriously cool piece you built there.....where did you source the bridge??
ihocky2
That cutaway (which is completely awesome) screams shred along with the headstock, but the double single coils say blues. What do you play on it? what pup's are they? I love it. I play it mostly for country. I like pointy headstocks though and wanted something a little more agressive looking than a standard Tele. Those are just the GFS clearance matched pair for the Tele. I does sound really nice clean though, overdrive has a nice blues tone. Once I start pushing the distortion, especially the high gain and it goes down hill fast. But for the little recording work I do, I can see this being used for a lot of clean tones, very bright and crisp. where did you source the bridge?? Guitar Fetish, but I would not get it again if I had to do it over. The way the strings come through the body, they lay right along the saddle adjustment springs, and unless at full pitch, the springs rattle. So if I down tune at all I have to use heavier springs. Hmm, mine camera makes my bass look better. Cool guitar BTW. I like the Tele shape and the deer print cutout is awesome.
ihocky2
Thanks, as for the cutouts, as I said before I have to give all the credit to Drak and his Texas Telecasters. He had been using a longhorn for the soundhole, and it inspired me. I just noticed you are from Pa. Where abouts, I am right outside of Allentown. Funniest thing I've read here all week. I really dig the looks of the banding as binding. I've contemplating that for a while. It's good to see that it wouldn't look silly.
