vanhorton Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) hey, I've done a few searches on the matter of using body/ wood filler and i know using neither is ideal in many people's eyes, but I'm not to concerned with it because the guitar is getting a solid color. but anyway, I couldn't find any specific brands of filler that people have had success with. i remember seeing that Minwax 2 part wood filler is a pretty good product, but any others? how about body filler? there are so many brands and some are expensive I'd hate to buy something that wont work well for me. sorry for the lengthy post but any feedback is greatly appreciated. thanks! o yea, i found this stuff on ebay, what do you think of it?wood filler it just got my attention because its for maple/alder which is what the guitar is. MescaBug Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) Stewart-Macdonald. They got all kinds of grain fillers, wood putties. www.stewmac.com Edited February 22, 2008 by MescaBug Quote
killemall8 Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 use epoxy. the reason people advise not using fillers is because they shrink and show up even through solid finishes. Quote
deeboy Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 I have used both liquid epoxy and putty epoxy. Putty epoxy works better because you can mold it better. This is useful when filling dings in the corners or contours. The putty epoxy that I recommend is Quickwood. You can find it in Home Depot. It is easy to use, shrinks less and sands well. Quote

vanhorton Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 Thanks for all the replies! I got some epoxy wood filler, i had to go to Lowes because there is no home depot around me, I got Elmers brand 2-part epoxy and it seems to be working well its solid but I just need it for surface gouges right now, it doesn't shrink and its supposed to be stain able, I'm about to go sand it and see how it holds up, ill let everyone know how it goes.
