Kenny
well, this is not a guitar. but I'd like to share more about myself, as I'd like to make more connections on this forum. In addition to working with wood, I love working with clay. this is my 4th year doing it. two years ago I discovered the wonders of sculpting. (im self taught) anyways I thought id share some finished work and some brief explinations (nobody said it had to be guitars :-p) Chronological order "Actions speak louder than words" stoneware - 2006 I was 16 at the time that I did this. Also was my first attempt at anything remotely close to this. The symbolism is rather straight foward. Actions...speak louder than words. "Untitled" Stonewear - 2008 Well, this peice was more fun than anything. I made a huge pitcher that I didn't like so I cut a spout out of it in order to try and do something differnt. Then I hit it on the potters wheel and got an idea. The result was my hand as I saw it after hitting it. The turqouise glaze was made entierly by me, also my first attempt at making a glaze "Moving to a better place" stoneware - 2008 This was an attempt to capture motion. Also my first attempt at doing a human face. let me tell you... 200000x more difficult than making a guitar, simply becuase humans are designed to recognise facial features of other humans. I do like the somewhat sad expression on the mans face. "Vive" stoneware - 2008 this is my latest peice which a representation of my belief that we have the ability to empower ourselfs, partially with rock solid resolve. there are many metaphores in this one, such as the "socialismo" or "black power" fist comming from a stone of sort. take what you will and since this is a guitar building thread heres an inlay im working on for what ive decided to be an entirely non functional "art guitar" (each shade is a differnt peice of wood) id love to do this on an electric soon btw since im half bolivian i thought it would be fitting for me to do a small bolivian town. opinions, feedback? Doug 59
Great to see that creativity Kenny....cool. I like the marquetry on the guitar top, and I think you did catch some movement in "Moving to a better place". ...don't stop expressing yourself. Doug. avengers63
First of all, I'd really like a better look at the marquetry on that acoustic. I'm getting into other woodworking, including inlay work. I might be hitting you up for tips. For the rest, I like the movement in the bust. I have an art background as well. A lot of it was in 2D pencil & paper. I went on to painting miniatures. Like Doug said - never stop expressing yourself, regardless of the medium used. That's why I love playing guitar. Music is such an emotional release... so theraputic. For me, it's the most versatile form of emptional release and self expression there is.
Kenny
next one i do will be much better, i didnt use paper backed veneers so i didnt have as much control. but i learned a lot of what not to do the joints are much more obvious becuase im in the process of inlaying it (epoxy everywhere) Kenny
anderekel
That's all really cool, but I like the inlaying the best, that's really good
avengers63
Dude.... That's AWSOME! Once it's all done, how do you get rid of the epoxy on the face? Does it leave a "wet spot" like yellow glue? What do you use to "outline" the pieces? Some of them seem to have a black outline. (Thus begins the torrent of questions. )
Bygde
That top is simply amazing! Really, REALLY impressive! Edited May 1, 2008 by Bygde

(Thus begins the torrent of questions. ) haha, im more than happy to answer any questions what i did was i decided what i wanted to. i drew the shapes onto wax paper and taped the wax paper to the veneers. then i put the veneer under the peice previous to it. and used that edge as one of the edges (to get as good of joints as i could) the epoxy on the face is still in its raw form. i just inlayed it (4 months ago :_p, but havent touched it since) after i finish filling everything ill sand it all down, and itll be like a regular inlay. the black looking outline is from the epoxy next to light woods. it wont be like that after its sanded
Xanthus
Wow, Kenny.... I'm impressed. Simply impressed I just.... oh man. No words, man. No words. The scene on that guitar is astounding. Are the clay pieces hard? Or is it just the pictures that are making them look like they're still moldable?
Mr. Preston Swift
sweet dude, i like "actions speak louder than words". I like the inlay too, the joints make it look like outlines and adds a kind of artistic animation quality to the piece. Keep it up.
Bmth Builder
Amazing work! Love the guitar inlay! My favourite of the sculptures has to be the last one, the fist looks really powerful, and that moving face is a quality idea as well
WezV
i really like the untitled one and the moving one... stuff i would quite like to own actually... for me the guitar top is bordering on twee, but it does show great skill
