jammy Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 A friend want to re-finish his old Music man bass as the finish on there at the moment has become sticky (apparently a known problem with this year of manufacture), but doesn't want to spend too much money. I was looking for suggestions on easy, quick to apply, good looking finishes for swamp ash. Hand-rubbed stains/oils would suit, I think. Any suggestions chaps? What's your favorite method for finishing swampash? Quote
erikbojerik Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I've seen Tru Oil on swamp ash and it looks fine. Quote
Quarter Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Tru Oil does look great on swamp ash and has a great feel to it too. Quote
Daniel Sorbera Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Tru Oil looks/feels amazing on swamp ash. Of course if you want something that looks a bit unique you could always grain fill with one color than shoot a different color over the top for a contrast effect. It looks pretty sweet. Quote
godzilla Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 and there you have it, jammy! Steve Quote
Mattia Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Oil gives it a nice, woody feel, although I am quite partial to grain filled high gloss on swamp ash... Quote
Bass-Man43 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Or you can do what warwick does to their swamp ash bodies. Lightly sand blast the body, which gets rid of some of the soft grain giving you really deep pores... Its really awesome I myself want to try doing it one of these days. Quote
