mojoman Posted January 18, 2009 Report Share Posted January 18, 2009 are all non metalic materials ok to use in covers for pickups ?? i know wood plastic ect is ok , im wondering about epoxies,animal hides ect, do pickup covers cause any minor loss in the pups performance ?? my build is a shorter scale so i want to weigh every input to the build !! borge Posted January 19, 2009 Report Share Posted January 19, 2009 Rob Zombies guitarist has a guitar covered with pig skin, he's adding tattoos to it over time. a non metallic cover wont affect the magnetic field but it will affect the min. string-pickup distance before the strings start hitting the cover. So if you are using, say wooden covers (thicker than metal), expect a sligtly lower output and slightly changed sound compared to a good quality nickel silver cover.
