Folks,

Does anyone have any good strong opinions about the density of mahogany for necks? I have African Mahogany in a fairly wide density range, and am wondering whether heavy or lighter is generally preferred. (again, for necks specifically)

Thanks,

Paul

In my experience (have gone thru HUNDREDS of board feet of African mahogany)

The heavier the mahogany is, its usually that much stiffer too. (Great thing for necks)

The lighter colored and weight mahogany, its usually a LOT softer and has almost no stiffness at all.

But ive used everything inbetween and never had any problems over the years with stiffness or anything with african mahogany. All should be good if its cut right, and dried properly.
