Fowl2338 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Mahogany neck/RW fretboard vs. Maple neck/RW fretboard in an Alder body. Would there be much of a difference in tone? Quote
Bionic Dave Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Maple as a very general rough rule might be said to promote a bright sound with punchy midrange and warmer airy bass. Dave Quote
Fowl2338 Posted February 12, 2010 Author Report Posted February 12, 2010 Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't really answer my question. I am just wondering if there would be a definite notice in tone with a mahog/rw in alder compared to maple/rw in alder. Quote
Bionic Dave Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 nothing out of this world. will be very close. Quote

Here is a link. I don't know how much of this info is real or how much is imagined but tere is a lot of information. http://www.andersonguitars.com/tonelibbody.cfm#link31 Quote
Prostheta Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I feel that Mahogany is a "slow sounding" warm wood with guts, whereas Maple seems brighter and "faster" with more snap. That's more how I perceive them from instruments I've played and built. I think your Alder will have more of an effect. Quote
westhemann Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 There will be a noticeable difference in tone..I have a sabre with an original maple neck that I replaced with a mahogany warmoth neck..the warmoth neck is noticeably warmer with more "presence"..alder is already pretty snappy by itself. I really prefer mahogany...but that is more like an opinion. Quote
