tdog Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I'm in the design stages of an 8-string bass build. Aside from going the custom built route with say...Seymour Duncan (this is my first option as I see it now), are there any pickup companies making pups for 8-string basses? Since the octave strings are so relatively close, would a normal 4-string pickup do the job? Greg Quote
jbkim Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I think that should be fine. You can go with a blade type pickup if you're worried about pole pieces lining up. Quote
krazyderek Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 the emg 45 series might be wide enough ?? they're blades Quote
lovekraft Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 My 8-string BC Rich uses a standard DiMarzio P & J setup - unless you're using extreme string spacing, a standard pickup will work fine. F'rinstance, my 12'vers are 'bout as wide as a driveway, but only use EMG40 size HZ's. Basically, if you can play it with one finger, it only needs one pole piece. Quote
tdog Posted December 31, 2003 Author Report Posted December 31, 2003 Thanks to everyone for the input. It is time to get to work. Quote
