MikeT93
Is it safe to only apply one coat of shellac (wiped on two-pound cut) and one coat of satin polyurethane (brushed on with a foam brush) to a maple neck? I know it won't protect against dents at that thickness, but it feels nice. I'm just concerned about it protecting from moisture so it doesn't warp. killemall8
Even unfinished maple necks wont warp... So yes, it is fine...
MikeT93
Awesome, that's good to hear. I like the color of a yellowed finish on maple and I know it gets ugly dirt marks if you play it raw, but I wasn't sure on protecting it otherwise. Thanks. Here's some wood porn of the neck in question The fretboard's oiled now so it's even richer. Anyway, thanks for the advice, I'm excited to get on with this build! B. Aaron
No common finish will actually completely prevent moisture from getting into or out of a neck anyway. All they can do is slow down the change in wood moisture.
