Pestvic
So after buying this stuff up. (enough alder for 4 bodys, mahogany for 2 bodies. and mahogany for 6 necks.) I started new finalized templates I forgot to take pics of the body clamping, rough cut, route to template, etc. I routed here to start the carve I just use a straight chisel and a hammer to do the chunky work. It later turns to this (after lots of sanding)
Pestvic
started the back carves Stained the top DARK black, sanded back and stained it light black for this Sealed it Top looks amazing! (I've always wanted this charcoal color) And here she sits next to her sister (the previous build I just updated) Waiting on truss rod and fretboard to start the neck. (should come in by Friday at the latest). Then comes fretting and Neck shaping and such, After all that I will route the body for a snug neck fit and what not. Thanks for looking! Pestvic
Parts!! drew out the board Routed and fit the truss rod Here is my solution for stopping the stewmac truss rod rattle. Simple and effective. No rattle at all. Only two wraps with painters tape. Glued the fretboard, dressed and polished the frets
Pestvic
Routed the body for the neck. started shaping the headstock/neck and drilled tuners here is the first bump in the road. I started carving the back of the heel and a huge chip came off. I immediately reglued it and it was invisible. Anyway, neck is shaped/ stained, volute and all Edited June 24, 2012 by Pestvic

Pestvic
So we have some problems! The neck was literally like 1/16th or so to thin by the neck pickup so the strings would of slipped off if played. So I decided to change this build completely. I thought about this and figured out how to save the body AND the neck. I removed the fretboard and will remove the frets. I then will shave down the fretboard to compensate for the thickness of a new maple binding I'm adding to the fretboard to make a fretboard thick enough for a 7 STRING!!! Im pretty excited as This is becoming my new and FIRST 7 string build Here are the progress shots and a video I made of how to remove the fretboard: here is the neck and new neck template laying here as I thought about this heres the new plan. the inner rectangle is the ebony and the outer lines are the binding plan (obviously lol) I layed out lines where I would like to have the ebony cut and the binding but I think ill keep the binding a little thinner to keep it looking nicer. so with plan in mind I got out the tools and went to work Here is a video to show the process of how I remove a fretboard. If you mods want to add it to the tutorial section at the start of the site that would be awesome Im planning on using bareknuckles and the hipshot tremolo I just ordered parts for the new build also. Got a fret puller and stuff. I'm pretty stoked. Edited September 9, 2012 by Pestvic
crazygtr
Nice Video. Only thing I would advice is to get your hand out of the way when reaching the last bit of fretboard, if that scraper would've been sharp you would've been injured. westhemann
It's easier to do the fretwork when the neck is off the guitar. The neck should be complete ideally before mounting to the body.Get a few guitars under your belt and you will see. This is exactly what I do. I start with my block then route for the truss rod, then fretboard. sand, etc. Then fret. Then shape the neck then build guitar finish all that. Then check the playing. Then level so its as little work as I can make it, then dress.
