are the bushings necessary or not?

i bought the hardware few months ago and iv'e got the tune -o matic without the bushings but with the studs. thanks for the help. (throw this form i 'm about to finish my first electric guitar)

Some styles of tune-o-matics used bushing and some did not. If your style is supposed to have bushings, you need them.

A vintage nashville TOM does not use bushings. It needs the 1/2 mape top of a LP to hold the posts. I have built a maple topped Tele with a vintage nashville TOM without bushings. The point is that the non-bushing posts need a solid hardwood to support them.
