Curtis P Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I am lookin into a good bridge for the RR i am building, maybe something like the newer Ibanezs, maybe not, whats good bridge for a fair price, canadian? I am just startin to get some parts together, and i would like to get the bridge so when i start to route i can get it lined up and routed in place, same with pots and pickups. Also, not to hijack my own thread, but for the neck join, a bolt on neck, how thick should the heel on the neck be? i want it to be flush at the back, and at the end, the body will be around 1 and 1/4 inch thick, or a little less, maybe, i gotta re mesure some stuff, this is just estimating Thanks Curtis Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 what do you want?a trem or fixed bridge? if you want an original floyd check with derek...he is in canada too if you want a fixed bridge check carvin.com Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 umm...it depends on what you want....have you ever played a trem?if not and you don't know whether or not you want one, then stick with a fixed bridge a trem is alot more trouble.i think it is worth it but that is because i use it alot. wylde1919 Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I Think if you want an authintic RR feel and sound, go with the fixed bridge. He only used trems on 2 guitars and was mostly a les paul and SG player until he broke with QR. and then he only used trems on about two guitars (Original white with pinstripe Jackson, and the polka dot!) Curtis P Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 thats what I am building, orignal white with black pin stripes, how much trouble would it be to get a pic of a tremelo bridge from one of you guys? on or off a guitar, dont matter, wes, why are they alot of trouble?? daveq Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 There's more routing to do (usually). If you use a locking nut, then you have to deal with installing that. You can use locking tuners though. I prefer using a floyd bridge but it's all in what you like. Don't let the installation issues hold you back if it's something that you really want to do. I think the bridge installation is pretty easy but the locking nut can be tricky. Quote
Curtis P Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 well, i havent really done anything to the body, i just want to finish gettin parts together, then i can get the pickups/bridge/pots all lined up so i can route Curtis Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 i meant it was alot of trouble to keep set up and tune to pitch...you get used to it..but it is never going to be as easy as a fixed bridge Quote
Curtis P Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 ok, ummm, the bridge on my Washburn is a plate. with the square things stickin up that have screws with springs on the back end of the bridge (pointin down) what is this called? Curtis Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 does it look like this http://carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?CFG=...2&P2=FT6C&P1=HW Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 very easy to install and keep set up. good classic design Quote
Curtis P Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 would it be a good choice for the RR5? thanks Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 umm...that's up to you i think.i would put a trem on it because that is what i like...but i think for you that bridge is a good choice the thing is..if you use that bridge and later you want to change it..then it is still possible Quote
Curtis P Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 yea, i might want to do that, whats cost differnece between fixed and trem? Curtis Quote
westhemann Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 a good trem will run you about $150 at the cheapest(new) the price of the carvin is on the page i gave you Quote
Curtis P Posted January 24, 2004 Author Report Posted January 24, 2004 damn, the trems are too expensive for me at the moment, i am going to try and phone my uncle to see what he has for guitars at his shop, he may have a really crappy body with fair electronics, or he may know a guy or somethin to get me stuff cheap, but maybe not.... Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 Here is a thread of Ebay Floyd Rose trems. Most appear to be good quality, some crap. I will show the ones I bought off when I get them Quote
Curtis P Posted January 24, 2004 Author Report Posted January 24, 2004 ok, thanks I also need to know neck socket info, the body right now is 1 1/2 inches and the end, it will be 1 1/4 inch thick, what should the neck socket be then? Curtis Quote
FajiiNako Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 I recommend a tune-o-matic string thru design. IMO, it looks better on a rhoads, and feels better. Quote
