Idooz Posted November 6, 2017 Report Posted November 6, 2017 Hi everybody I would be happy if you could explain what features are important when choosing an amp for testing pickups during setups and new builds, furthermore it would be great if you'll recommend specific models. Thank you. 1 Quote
Guitarfix Posted November 10, 2017 Report Posted November 10, 2017 Well, I may be a little different her, but I use the head form a Peavey Royal King tube amp feeding two JBL Control One studio monitors. I have found that it gives me a very honest representation of the sound of the connected guitar, without adding too much "color". Quote
curtisa Posted November 10, 2017 Report Posted November 10, 2017 What about testing with a modelling amp or PC with VST amps installed? Different pickups will work with different styles of music, so why not cater to those styles by having as many amps at your disposal at minimal cost? Quote
Idooz Posted November 12, 2017 Author Report Posted November 12, 2017 Thank you very much for your answers, I appreciate it. Quote
Prostheta Posted November 12, 2017 Report Posted November 12, 2017 I second the idea of using modelling amps. The number of tones and combinations you can perform tests with are astounding. Still, a reference amp of sorts is always good if comparative testing is a priority. Something super simple like a Fender Champ? Quote
