erikbojerik
Anyone know what kinds of files are uploaded to CNC routers to machine stuff? 3-D CAD files? Are there any cross-platform file formats? Are there any files available (free?) for various guitar bodies and/or necks? I just noticed our machine shop at work has a CNC...hmmmm..... Most machines run of .nc files (which are made up of the g and m coding in there, among other commands). I don't know about cross-platform stuff: all my experience is with PCs. What I did for programming CNC mills was to take a cad file, save it as an .sat file, drop it into MasterCAM, lay down the toolpaths, post the code as a .nc program, then take it to the machine to be run. Daniel
I know that mostly everyone on this board knows the answer to this question, but I don't so, what's a router and what do they do?

JohnJohn
It also depends on what type of machine it is.Some can work 3-d some are just 2-d. I haven't worked a 3-d but the 2-d I trained on was pretty simple, you just had to plot the x-y-z axis.
