Curtis P Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 OK, i had a cherry neck with a beech fingerboard, but my friend snapped the headstock today, so i gotta make a new one, I was leaning towards maple because its supposed to give a tangy sound and i got cherry body, so thats a warmer tone, apparently, thinkin this might be combo?? i dunno what I will use for fingerboard yet though............. Any thoughts?? Curtis P.S. I might be able to get a hold of some ash for neck............ Curtis Quote
STAHLER Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Why not fix the neck you already have ? Quote
Curtis P Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 the headstock snapped off at the joint, i would fix it, but I want to keep it for a spare (just the back profile) for a while, its a very fast neck but I think I can do better Quote
westhemann Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 mahogany neck...you need a warmer tone than maple will give you to counter that harsh cherry snap Quote
Curtis P Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 i cant get mahogany, all I can get is maple, ash and possible more beech, maybe a bit of birch as well I am gettin these from my wood teacher, so its going to be like 3 dollars for neck blank and my fingerboard i can get for about 75 cents (if maple or beech) Thanks Curtis Quote
Curtis P Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 I got some ash today, man, now thats nice to work with!!! i am cutting one more peice hopefully tonight if my neighbour will let me use his table saw and then a bit of glueing wow, this neck is going a heck of lot faster now that I know how to build it Curtis Quote
nsherman2006 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 i say put on a beechwood fingerboard, imo they look awesome. Neal Quote
Curtis P Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 I had a beech fingerboard on my other neck, it looked really killer, very nice grain running up it, i miss it Curtis Quote
nsherman2006 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 did the fingerboard crack, if not, there's a tutorial on removing them, maybe you could salvage it to put on your new neck. Neal Quote
