JamesRaven23
Hey, everyone. I have a quick question.. I was wondering what's the average lifespan of the top 3 frets on a guitar (with normal use) And when should someone consider replacing them? Thanks, James A
Southpa
When you say "top" 3 frets are you referring to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd frets? Basically nobody can give you an average, too many variables involved like playing styles ( more or less bending etc.) how hard the person presses down on the strings, hardness of the steel in the frets, hardness of the strings being used and amount of playing time overall. Just keep on pickin' and a grinnin' and when you start to hear that buzzing or see the dimples and wear become evident then its time to refret or redress. Ki swordsman
'the answer is the length of a piece of string' (ie. no definitive answer)
soapbarstrat
I'm assuming Perry means to use a piece of known gauge guitar string to figure out the height of the worn frets.
