  1. Welcome to the Guitar Of The Month entries for February 2016! ProjectGuitar.com's Guitar Of The Month contest is a showcase for members to exhibit their creations and to vote on their favourites. The contest is open entry for any and all members, new or old. Winner(s) receive a featured article at the head of the ProjectGuitar.com homepage, a photo posting to our Facebook and elevated member status. ProjectGuitar.com receives tens of thousands of unique visitors monthly; Guitar Of The Month is a great way to showcase your creation to the world! Submissions are open throughout the month until about the last week when public voting opens. Polls close on the 1st of each month. Lastly, if you didn't win a previous month's Guitar Of The Month contest, you are encouraged to enter your build again the next month for a maximum of three consecutive months. Sometimes one entry just hits it out of the park! Tips and Guidelines Upload a maximum of eight photos for the instrument in your post Ensure that your guitar has a name otherwise we'll make one up ;-) List additional descriptive information specific to the build; for example.... The woods and materials used, especially if there is something unusual in there! Scale length(s) and other specific configuration details Electronics, pickups, etc. Is this your first build, fifth or five-hundredth? A bit of information on your own background as a builder helps give context to your build. Was it built in the garage, at school, work or in your own shop? A summary of the build's history. Was it built for yourself, friend/family or a client? Did you design the instrument and its specifications or was it built to spec? What were the inspirations behind the instrument and why were various build aspects chosen? Any background on what makes it special? Posting a link to your guitar-building website, Photobucket, Facebook, etc. is fine, even if it is your business. In the spirit of fairness we encourage instruments made by professional builders to have that disclosure made so there is a more even balance between weekend warriors and grizzled veterans. If you documented your build in the forums, post a link to the thread! Instruments with a build thread shared tend to attract more votes from the general community. Unsure what to write? Have a look around the entry archives for suggestions. If you have any questions about the contest, either PM me or ask forum members; we're a helpful bunch! This thread is exclusively for entry posts only - any post that is not an entry will be deleted. We love to hear your discussions and opinions on the month's entries whilst the polls are open. Alternatively, head over to that instrument's build thread if one has been made in the entry post. Good luck to all entrants!
  2. Congratulations to @SwedishLuthier on his well-deserved Guitar Of The Year win!

    Guitar Of The Year 2015

Peter has been a long-time contributor on ProjectGuitar.com, providing his insight into all aspects of luthiery generously and graciously. His highly identifiable "Northstar" body design has become a signature of sorts, having been used as the basis for a wide range of instruments including an 8-string bass, an 8-string guitar, a headless guitar and of course this stunning doubleneck. Peter's wider range of instruments can be found over on his personal website http://www.peternaglitschluthier.com/, in several build threads on the forums or exhibited at shows such as the Holy Grail Guitar Show! Congratulations on producing a stunning instrument that has clearly resonated with the ProjectGuitar.com community. Last but not least, a warm round of applause to the other eleven Guitar Of The Month winners from 2015 whose instruments won through from the dozens of entries in 2015. ------- A full photo gallery can be found in the original June 2015 GOTM announcement.

@komodo The Dragon This build was one I did for myself, with every detail being what I would pick on my uber guitar (which is what the build thread was titled). The initial build was mothballed after I had too many builds going at once. When I picked it back up again, I went full steam for three months, doing several new techniques that was a big learning opportunity. Specs Neck 25" scale length Gaboon ebony fretboard with dragon inlay using white and gold mother of pearl Rosewood neck of unknown variety-best educated guess is Panama (Yucatan) rosewood Ebony faceplate Sperzel open back tuners Black buffalo horn nut Body Swamp ash capped with 5A quilted maple front and back Full cream binding Alcohol-based dyes and nitrocellulose clear Hardware/Electronics Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Bridge: SH-5 custom 8 (Alnico 8) Neck: Seymour Duncan Jazz Simple one volume, one tone with a .022 Sprague orange drop cap for the tone Three way switch B/BN/N ------

  12. The information in Bill's original article is still 100% correct; using his method of drawing out your pickup for visual reference in combination with this video you should have zero problems figuring out those mystery buckers!
  13. Dylan's YouTube channel contains many more excellent information-dense and objectively-poised videos. We're looking forward to bringing you more of these great videos!
  14. Hi Jason, This is a super-old article, so products and sources change. "Holoflash" is more the nickname given to the finished look. Google around for "holographic plastic" or "iridescent plastic". It's still a simple material to get ahold of, plus there are more patterns and random looks to it these days.
  15. @brutal-lv, @verhoevenc, @psikoT, @MasterOfTheWind, @killemall8, @vcguitars Congratulations to all of you guys for making this month one of the strongest lineups we've seen for a while. Your builds are something I think that most builders would be proud of having completed. Remember that you're free to re-enter GOTM for December and January, and the last place for Guitar Of The Year 2015 is still up for grabs!
  16. This month's contest is the final opportunity to get your instrument in for the last place in our Guitar Of The Year contest in January. Remember that entrants who just missed the post in the last couple of months are free to re-enter!

@verhoevenc, Raygun Experimental Labs'- Model 1 Forest "This guitar has been a lot of fun, but one that 'rested' in the shop for awhile while I made some decisions on it... so it's been a long time coming. It's a real bling project in terms of woods from the east indian rosewood neck and radial purfling to the killer quilted spalt top I got years back from old member @thegarehanman as a gift." Specs Neck Wood: East Indian rosewood 2 piece Fretboard: Faux-bound ebony 24 3/4" scale 22 fret board with 'abstract forest' inlay by RQuinn (www.fletcherhandcraftedguitars.com) Headstock: EIRW headplate with spalted quilted maple wings and backstrapping Body Wood: Lightly figured Spanish cedar with a spalted quilted maple drop top featuring inset radial EIRW and b/w/b purfling Size: 14" width lower bout Hardware and Electronics Hardware: Gotoh box tuners and Hipshot baby grand bridge. EIRW pickup rings Electronics: This is where this guitar really gets nuts. The Lollar Imperials run into a standard volume/tone/3-way configuration. However the volume push/pull coil taps the humbuckers while the tone push/pull activates a Scott Walker Guitars booster circuit. The chrome knob controls the boost's gain level. There is also a Scott Walker Guitars buffer circuit that drives a stereo jack effects loop. With the mini toggle in one direction the loop sound is allowed to return freely (as per a normal loop) and the arcade button acts as a global kill switch. With the mini toggle in the other direction the loop return is stopped until the arcade button is pressed. Essentially allowing the player to "tap in" the effects return signal. Chris is the evil benevolent mastermind behind RayGun Guitars; check them out at http://www.raygunengineering.com/ note: This guitar is currently available for purchase! http://www.raygunengineering.com/?q=content/spalted-quilt-maple-model-1
  19. A quick update on our current state of play: we're a few dollars short of our December goal, but that's great news however you look at it. That people are willing to get out and push is a positive statement saying that we're headed in the right direction. We're seeing visitors from a diverse number of countries worldwide, which is a large reason why we threw the idea of a "membership fee" out of the window. People have vastly different income levels; access to informational/educational resources shouldn't be constrained simply because of where you live, your employment status or affordability. For the most part, a dollar or two is within everybody's reach which is why Patreon is a great method for making this work. Some sort of "$200 per year for Gold Access!" simply isn't an option for anybody at school, out of work or living in a country with the pressures of lower incomes. ProjectGuitar.com is fast becoming a full-time engagement for myself and site contributors, demanding hundreds of hours of coding, research, discussion, writing, editorial time and planning. If you would like to contribute content, help with editing or any of the heavy lifting then do PM me. We will try and figure out some form of compensation and support for doing so. That we are able to do this without any form of commercial interest, income from advertising revenue or outside sponsorship is truly unique. For this, we salute you! ----- Our next key goal is to have enough cash in the pot each month to buy items for product reviews....which we will donate back to the community as random giveaways!
  20. Genuinely, thank you Perry! Your support is a highly positive vote of advocacy in the future of ProjectGuitar.com; if anything, your suggestions and ideas a couple of years back is how this campaign and development arc was seeded. Many people around here have taken inspiration from your works and journeys over the last few years....even if they don't realise it. Having you onboard is fantastic!
  21. Wow! This is going to be a tough choice for a lot of people. Six really strong contenders duking it out this month....
  22. Need another peek at this month's entries? Click HERE! Welcome to this month's ProjectGuitar.com Guitar Of The Month voting round! The winner of each month's Guitar Of The Month contest gets front page placement on the main ProjectGuitar.com website, privileged member status, a photo feature on our Facebook page and as the default site background photo, plus an all-important shiny member profile badge. Good luck to this month's entrants! As usual, discuss your voting choice and opinions about the entries this month in this thread....however don't read into the discussion until you've cast your vote! ;-) This thread and poll automagically close on the 1st December 2015 Next month's Guitar Of The Month contest is the final chance to compete for Guitar Of The Year 2015!
  23. I have nothing to add to that sentiment really! We'll soon be able to start feeding more information and news about the developments that are going on "behind the scenes" in the Patreon creator feed. We'll be publicly announcing everything here as time progresses anyway. That said, since PG is supported solely by its patrons I think we have a responsibility to keep you guys in the loop on decision-making processes and milestones as they happen. This week has mostly been investigating whether any project development grants are available; any initial investment will bring the dates for the workshop setup and all that good stuff forward! The first thing we'll be starting with is a weekly vlog on anything from scouting out premises, developing a working shop layout, sawmill timber site visits, etc. Community input, opinion and knowledge is all part of this process as much as any other.
