  1. i used that rosewood for my fret boards, the piece wasnt big enough for a top its only like 5" wide, how toxic is the dust i havent been wearin a mask or respirator but i havent been gettin a skin rashes or anything ive also been workin with black walnut at the same time and have had no problems MzI
  2. i have a chunk of bolivian rosewood, cost me $9 a bdf, it is quite heavy makes maple feel light to say the least, i like the looks of it better then brazilian and the piece i have has an amazin grain pattern totally unique and the color variation is great heres a pic or two 1 2 MzI
  3. 8/4 and 4/4 refers to the nominal thickness, actual thickness will very but is generally less than the nominal if i remember correctly i think its 3/32 or so less then the nominal dont quote me tho MzI
  4. the headstock 2 thumbs up but the body, to be nice competely scrap it, use the headstock as a basis for your design i think you would turn out with a better lookin bass in the end MzI
  5. heres three more pics im so outta it right now ill explain what i did the last two nights tomarrow when i get a chance, this heat is really killin me right now 1 2 3 MzI

  7. are you making the V outta korina or mahogany? it also strikes a resemblance to mine that im workin on, very cool tho MzI
  8. im thinkin the same thing, as im workin on it i cant wait to play it updates as requested, my neck is done for the most part and the neck pocket is done, the neck fits in theres a couple spots where its not like tight the way it should be but im thinkin im gonna use poly u glue to make sure its a good strong bond with no gaps, i did screw up the heel a lil bit but i just made it so that the neck body connection is at the 24th fret yea talk about upper fret access, i started radius sanding the fretboard and of course i had to go and break my sanding block so its sittin for the night so the glue can dry and ill finish that tomarrow next step is to set up my fretting press and instal the frets then put the neck together depending when i get my bridge in ill prolly be done building by the end of next weekend and ill put it together and get it set up then take it apart and spray it look here <---- there is 5 or 6 pics i think at the bottom to check out MzI
  9. more work got done today so i have more pics the neck is just about done, its shaped i just hafta finish up by the headstock and by the heel once i get the body extension cut, shaping the neck was actually beyond easy i was totally suprised prolly cuz i didnt use a spoke shave or a rasp, i instead used the orbital sander i think its called i cant rember but whatever it only took me 30 mins to do the main part of the neck no way will i be using a rasp to do it when its so easy on the sander it came out good too and its only sanded to 80 grit, the headstock is rough cut like really rough cuz i was havin a hard time with it and it was gettin late so i left it for tomarrow, theres like 12 more pics at the bottom and i dont feel like posting 12 different links so heres one link enjoy MzIlink

  15. too late i already did the inlays, they are only 5 mm tho so they are more of like accents they dont take much from the wood, tho i still have a lot of rosewood left, i bought a whole block of it, i usually play standin tho ill post some pics of it tomarrow with the inlays MzI
  16. another update, i routed my truss rod channel, i also finished the inlays but i still havent taken pics of the fret board lazy me o well, i do have pics of the truss rod route, tomarrow will be rough shaping of the neck and mayb radiusing the fretboard 1 2 3 4 5 thats it for now, yes i kno some of them are not upright i keep forgetin to rotate em when i shrink em down more to come tomarrow as usual MzI
  17. you clink sumthin by typing too fast and not checkin over what ur doin hahahaha, yea sorry bout the misspellin, im in love with that fretboard cant wait to see it when its on the guitar, im goin with small 5mm dot inlays so it wont take away from the wood too much MzI
  18. pictures pictures more pictures, i spent most of the day workin on the guitar, i got the fret board slotted and most of the inlays all marked out, i hafta mark the 12 and 24 th fret inlays, then ill b done with that for the night, i still hafta make my radius sanding blocks, i also made my scarf joint and glued it up, the piece i used for the headstock looks a lil messy right now but should clean up nice once i start shaping the neck and headstock heres the link cuz i dont feel like posting like 7 or 8 different links clink me <---- ill prolly route the truss rod channel and start shaping the neck this week and hopefully start gettin the body together next weekend MzI
  19. is the explorer originally a gibson or did you make it MzI
