  1. just make a dummy neck from a piece of 2" x 1/2" , screw it into the neck pocket, and clamp the neck to a bench or something. Then you can pain the top and sides(without getting paint on your table), the undo the clamp and flip it over...... easy!
  2. hmm. i thought all traceys had a built in DI, well mine does. yeah 130w is plenty, my friend does decent sized gigs, and the last one he did, he used an AC-30 mic`d up. Did the job nicely.
  3. i hate drop tuning my bass, for the reason that it muddys up the low notes. basses arent neccesarily meant to be played low low all the time.... why do most of em have 24 frets.. they are melodic instuments not backlines. also when i drop-d on mine, i seem to loose most of my harmonics(5th ,7th,12th) which is odd
  4. indeed, although im sure it would be offset a certain amount by the mahogany., but the mahgany looks odd also.... but i really like the shape of the body. looks very comfortable.
  5. i may be wrong , but are they both the same necks? they look identical , have the same inlays, and both have numbering on the tenon.
  6. did you see the first guitar with the body half made of mdf ???? is he mad..? that would make for a seriously weak neck joint.
  7. dont worry bout it, i dont follow rugby! aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
  8. wow, they really have some great prices! bluespresence : is their MM humbucker a 4-conductor pickup? if so , i think i`ll be ordering one! wicked...
  9. on the subject of pups, any ideas on pickup choice for my forthcoming 2nd bass, its a 4-string fretless with af. mahogany body and mahog/rosewood/mahog laminated neck with an ebony fingerboard. i was thinking single humbucker , ala musicman stingray any thoughts? ( i really dig that fretless stingray pino palladino sound)

    Budget Pickups

stew mac ones are good, but are only 3-conductor .
  11. yes, i fitted a golden age standard and overwound in my neck and bridge positions respectively. great tone! , the standard wound one has a lovely bassy tone, will i find the overwound in the bridge position can be a little harsh(really high mids) at times , but still qiute acceptable.. gives my guitar a great les paul ish tone when both p-ups are on, lots of bite and mountains of tone! i would deffo recommend them.
  12. i would have thought 1/8 inch would be fine for a selector switch. and yes , i think the finish would make it a little narrower. but not 1/16th...
  13. i use a curved bottom spokeshave , and although it can be tricky at times, it is an invaluable tool. It took me a long time to get proficient at using it.
  14. holy god tsl, you are pretty wasteful when it comes to installing frets! i cut mine no more than 1 or 2mm wider than the fretboard... but then again i am better than you. only messin with ya! thats a lovely piece of figured maple btw.....
  15. Will you be making this a short-scale, around 19" or 20"? I want to make a headless one along these lines but I wondered what to do about a short scale truss rod. Please post if you find a such a truss rod or if you modify a full scale one. you could use a mandolin truss rod, i think they are 12" long
  16. what does 5150 mean? seriously its on everything, his amps, guitars, underwear.... well maybe not but seriously what is it?
  17. i generally just plane the board to size, it is tedious i know, especially since when you are starting the angled cut the strokes on the plane are extremely short. but you get more a buzz doing it manually! imho.
  18. for me its gotta be 24frets 25" scale when using 2 humbuckers, but i love the sound of a single coil at the 24th fret harmonic node.
  19. as for impreza wrx blue, good choice. but be warned, there are a few different shades. The european model has more of a purple tint to it, but the japanese spec wrx`s(sti`s included) have a waaay nicer colour.( a bit lighter and more pearly)The World Rally CArs (WRC) use the japanese(sti) tint. the above is true for the pre-2001 model , not sure about the 2001-onwards and facelift model.
  20. yup, as soon as you start makin em yourself, you really start to notice that a LOT of so-called high end guitars are prone to poor build quality. the only consistent quality guitars i see are cheaper ones like squiers and epiphones. sad really.
  21. this used to happen with my squier~(H-s-s also) until i sheilded all of the cavities! ahhhh, no more radio! and no hum!
