  1. hmm , must be moisture in the wood, come to think of it i remember taking most of the dust off it with a slightly damp cloth..... must use a tack rag next time. Thanks for your help coen. hopefully i`ll have it done by the weekend so i can post pictures!
  2. jeremy thats some mighty fine work! , i especially like the bass! ...... er ... and the naked chick!
  3. 3 days ago i lacquered the body of my bass using lechler 2k acryllic lacquer(Acrifan). The body was sanded with 400. I first applied a thin coat , then applied 3 heavy coats(5 min between coats). after the third coat or so, i noticed little bubbles appearing in the lacquer, so i waited to see if they would disapear but they did not. I continued lacquering as i knew i would be sanding it back anyway. So i sanded it back with 400 yesterday and the bubbles have gone. but the question remains, What cause the bubbles? bear in mind , i ran out of hardner so i used an old tin of hardner that had been lying on the shelf for probably a year or so. any ideas?
  4. i do all of my pickup cavities freehand(well, sort of) with the router, i just clamp a piece of wood to the body to act as a guide for the base of the router and do all of the straight bits that way. When it come to getting the corners square i use a chisel. On pickups with roun bits(like jazz bass p-ups) i get the router lined up above the bit to be routed and slowly plunge it down, as if you were drilling the hole. So far i am getting good results, but i have made the odd mistake or two(nothing that could`nt be fixed) its a scary business i know!, one mistake and it might be .......... nooooooooo! btw ... your english is great!
  5. im going with alex on this one! , all les pauls ive seen made have had their neck joint routed before the top was glued on. BUT, there is no reason why you could`nt make it with an angled neck socket! i have never made a les paul , so i really dont know which way is best.
  6. i found this about jarrah : http://www.rampartguitars.com/w_E-Ki_3.htm#Jarrah should sound the same as hard rosewood
  7. yeah, i built a bass, but i hav`nt finished it yet. I have been waiting nearly 2 months for my pickups to arrive. i used gotoh compact tuners which needed 9/16" diameter holes.i could`nt get a drill bit that size so i used one i had that was slightly smaller, then enlarged the hole using a round file. it worked out very nice indeed the bushing were a nice tight fit.
  8. ah i see, you would probably be better off getting a 3/8" drill bet as they are slightly less than 10mm. in fact thats prob what the tuners are. hope you get it sorted anyway. i`ve seen worse than fender build quality! ...... mine.
  9. 10.25mm sounds acceptable to me!
  10. i think 25k is only used for active circuitry.
  11. heres one with dpdt , stewmac #1215 / 1216
  12. I think its all in his head to be honest. Im 1 year from graduating with a degree in electronic engineering , and even i cant see how there could be a difference! , batteries are DC .... so its not as if one will give a cleaner signal than the other . Plus, lets say one duracell has a voltage of 9.1, and an energizer has 8.9 V , well i`ll swear that the next energizer will have 9.1 V and maybe the next duracell off the line produces 8.85V They are all gonna vary somewhat , so anyone who claims they can tell the difference between two nine volt batteries is smokin too much! ........ in my opinion
  13. And... The distance from the nut to the 24th fret (two octaves) should be 3/4 of the total scale length
  14. Ah the Euro , Its a great exchange rate indeed . I am not taxed at all when i get parts shipped to me in ireland.
  15. place it such that the high e-string saddle is 24 1/4" or 25.5" from the nut.
  16. Sounds to me like a fender Bass VI : http://theband.hiof.no/articles/fender_bass_vi.html same control layout and 3 single coils.
  17. Well ,i suppose you could try and redrill new holes for the screws , or shave a bit of metal off the plate. I think my squier has the same prob, but not as serious as you mention. I would`nt think its a major cause for concern.
  18. In my squier, I have the three springs tightened up *tight* , and a big block of rosewood wedged between the trem block the the edge of the trem cavity...... so there aint no movement!. This has help the guitar stay in tune better especially when bending the strings.
  19. Hi, Can anyone point me to any good websites which contain tutorials/information on scratchbuilding acoustic instruments , Guitar, Violin, Mandolin etc... with the emphasis on guitar , i would like to build myself a dreadnaught size acoustic sometime . Any tips?
  20. Coen ,it seems form the pictures that it is a 'hardtail' , Did you have any trouble getting the holes straight through the body? Also, When you used the jigsaw , did your blade bend when turning corners? because mine does. Thanks, John.
  21. Coen , im amazed! that is one beautiful strat! Congratulations . The paint job looks unreal considering it was done with a roller! i bow to you!!!!
  22. fleetwood mac , hopefully this summer!
  23. well i always have a 1/8" allen wrench about the place, for adjusting stewmac hotrods. p.s anyone know what size allen wrench the bridge saddle height adjusting pieces on a squier use
