  1. hi there, sorry about that, try johndavey@hotmail.com thanks again, john.
  2. maestro, if its not too much hassle, could you send them to me too? john.davey2@mail.dcu.ie thanks, john
  3. to be honest, its not really about what you know, its about trying to keep order on the forums. i was a mod in another (non guitar related) forum and thats what it was about anyway. my 2 cent.(we have cent in europe too )
  4. pardon my ignorance, but who exactly is tommy iommi ?
  5. my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and they`re like, its better than yours, damn right its better than yours...... nuff said.
  6. what do you guys think of grover locking tuners? i have a set on one of my guitars and to be honest im not fully convinced ..... maybe my strings are binding in the nut and that is causing the tuning stability probs. john.
  7. may i ask, what are the dark woods in the centre of the body(front) i used wood just like that recently but i dont know what it is. thanks, john
  8. well the act of observing the paradox will collapse the wave function and cause it to exist one of the states, so i would say that.... it is EITHER true or false. john.
  9. interesting, can u suggest any particular pink floyd song(or album) that i could download(i dont have any pink floyd albums ) that the sa`s are used on thanks, john
  10. very true brian. over here in ireland there is lot of both systems used: plumbing : inches speed limits : mph (but distances are measured in km`s, go figure ) temperature : celsius ( or kelvin on a really cold day! ) land : acres weight : Kg`s ( but when we talk about weight of a body, its stone not kg....) as you can see its a mixed bag, a bit head wrecking at times. i blame the english! .
  11. i did the same set-up on my guitar. look at the free info sheets on the stewmac website. they give wiring schematics for blend pots.
  12. i did the same..... oops but its a 3 piece laminate so it should be ok
  13. i use a 1/4" router bit when i use the hotrod. it works perfectly for me.(have tried it on bass and guitar) as for the depth, ive never measured it i just set the depth guage on the router by sizing the rod end up to the bit.
  14. no chords no solos what exactly do you play then just open strings? thats when hes playing bass, as in 'bass guitar'
  15. its twisted. which i find really strange because the wood is almost perfectly flatsawn. better so than my friends mex strat which has a dead straight neck and is the same age
  16. try playing bass and singing. one of the hardest things ive ever tried
  17. i agree, youre right, i was just saying that, of two pieces, both resonated pretty much the same. just that one of them rang on longer(by a significant amount).
  18. no, most guitars have the battery inside the guitar, the mono jack inserted into the stereo socket causes the 9v circuit to be grounded, thus allowing current to flow. if you look at the diagram of the jack johnnyg drew, you will see that the 9v portion will touch the casing of the jack b4 it arrives at its own point of contact. if you are holding the jack in your hand(and its metal ended jack)then you are touching ground. if you happen to make contact with the socket on the guitar while the 9v portion is touching it on the way in, well then you have just become a resistor joing 9v to ground.... hence the little shock(just a giggle ). im pretty sure im right on this, either that or the last 4 years of electronic engineering in university have gone to waste just trying to clarify the point i was making. john.
  19. i agree to a certain extent, but i have found that pieces the same size and species can all have a different resonance when tapped, this way the best piece can be found(i did this with my current project) and guess what the lightest piece had the longest 'sustain' when tapped. interesting eh?
  20. hi all, ive read brian tutorial on it, but i would like to know if there a non-invasive way of doing it. the neck in question is curly maple flatsawn squier strat(1999). Ive grown very used to this neck and would hate to lose it so i would if posssible like to repair it. when you look (from the headstock end) down along the neck you can see that the headstock is not level with the line of the body(around 3-4 degrees of twist i think) now, it doesnt seem to affect playability, but its just one of those things that bugs me! if i did the sanding method, sure the head stock would still be at an angle relative to the body? and the heel would be at an angle too would it not? any help appreciated, thanks john.
  21. it would be 9v dc , interference should not be an issue. the only thing i can think of is that when you plug in the guitar, for a split second you will supply the ground(casing of the jack input) with 9v as the jack is sliding in. so there is the chance of electrical shock(or possibly a short), but 9v only makes you giggle.
  22. beatufil axe, and i think the fiure on the maple comes out very nicely with the finish you have used. great job.
  23. im drunk but here goes: i shape my fingerboard using a plane. i then glue this to the neck blank. I then use a pattern following bit(1") on my router and route the neck to shape using the finger board as a guide. its really quick and simple
