  1. What is it you are trying to do? Make the finish satin or buff it? You dont need to use nitro. In fact i think it is garbage and overrated. YOu can use any type of automotive paint.
  2. Here are some pics of it with oil. Really made the figure stand out. All it needs is the fretwork, which i have absolutely no desire to do right now. Other than that, it is ready to assemble. On a side note, I counted all the guitars i have pictures of, and with this one is somewhere around 110. There are about 5 or 6 more that i dont have pictures of because i lost them when my computer crashed. No wonder i am so burned out on this. Think about how much sanding and how many fret slots that is.
  3. Thanks guys. Scott, It is an illusion. That is where the mineral spirits ended so it makes a line looking like it is dark or something.
  4. Progress has been slow lately. I lost all motivation to build in the past few weeks. Usually when i take a break for this long i get really anxoius wthin a week to start building again. This time is different. I still dont feel any desire to work on them at all. Despite that feeling, i have made some progress on a 7 string. Normally i knock this stuff out in a couple days. But ive just been doing one or two things a day on it. This is before i glued in the neck. It is now sanded and has oil.
  5. For the record, you dont need any shielding for EMGS.
  6. Thanks guys. The maple burl 6 is oiled and sitting there waiting for parts. I ran into problems again with every other build i was working on, and had to refund a custom build as well. Needless to say, I am angry and taking a break. Back that that stage of wanting to throw every single guitar related thing through my garage door.
  7. Nice recovery. Ive never seen wenge do that, it normally has really strong gluing properties. Now that i see the neck on the body, is it just me, or does the neck look extremely long compared to the body size?
  8. Here are a couple more projects coming up. I also have a les paul for myself coming up soon. I figured its probably about time i actually make myself a few guitars. Obviously this neck doesnt go with this body.
  9. Ive done it before, but i did it the opposite. I got the main color i wnated, then rubbed red paint into the grain after, so it woudnt stick to the dyed color.
  10. Yeah man, for tops like that there needs to be clamps at least 1.5"-2 apart all the way around.
  11. Ah, i didnt read that it was for bass. That ups it a little bit. but there is no way i would every be paying 12$ for a jack plate. You can easily get those on ebay for a few bucks.
  12. Hope it works for you man. I can tell from the pictures that is about half as many clamps as necessary.
  13. I am curious to see what it is you are spending 600$ on. You may be better off shopping on ebay. I can get brand new EMGs for 200$ a set, HIpshot locking tuners for 55$ shipped Hiphot bridge for 55$ shipped then all the little stuff is less than 50$ total.
  14. Thanks guys. Pros, It is indeed ash! Scotty, I did dye the grain black a couple times to make sure there would be some contrast. Nitro, It is a color i mixed from a few different dyes. It was an emerald green base dye mixed with some yellow.
  15. Here are some pics of the green V almost done. I really like this shade of green.
  16. Any particular reason you routed the neck pocket before routing the body shape?
  17. Here is an update on the 7 string. All routed, drilled and i got the neck glued in tonight.
  18. I just stopped using them because it takes so much longer to make than to just use ferrules. I made mine a lot wider.
  19. Nice. I used to make a lot of those by hand for my string through guitars out of 6061.
  20. They now CNC their fretboards and can get any scale length you want. You type in the exact scale when you order on the "fret slotting service" link.
  21. You got the Fret saw and the depth stop for that price? It is 39$ just for the saw and the stop before shipping on stew mac.
  22. Not my style of shape at all, but great job overall. I have toyed with the idea of making a multi S but have never had the courage to try it.
  23. Thanks guys. I am really happy that this idea came out exactly like i pictured it. It even feels and plays in the same way i pictured it to with this finish. The back came out especially nice with all the carves. I have a couple of other builds going that i will get some progress pics on tomorrow.
