  1. Wow, I was seriously just about to ask the SAME question, even post pics of the same guitars, lol.
  2. You could just go to the harware store and buy some black woodstain. Thats what I did to ebonize one of my boards and it worked pretty well.
  3. Would anyone happen to know the radius of the Gotoh trem? (I know this thread is kinda old, i just hate having to add to the billions of threads to search through.
  4. So I hit it with the flame to bring out the grain. And then what? Straight Clear? Or do I need to stain it and then clear? Also, what if I burn it, I mean pretty dark, and then sand it down? I'll test those ideas tonight and see what happens.
  5. Hey, I'm converting my Ibanez 1570 into a Root Beer JEM. The only problem is I am not sure of the right way to do the finish. LGM told me it's just a dark stain over basswood, but I'm still convinced there's burning involved, or both. Does anyone know what the "right" way to do it or have any ideas?
  6. You could always just find a pic of one of eddies, photoshop it and scale it up. Thats what I do for all my templates/paint schemes.
  7. Thanx guys, I'll go for the swamp ash then!!!
  8. The title says it all. I need enough to do a top on a body. This is kind of what I'm going after: http://www3.alembic.com/img/ws_flatzebL.jpg . PM me if you have any or know where they might sell it. You can also email me at axemannate@hotmail.com Thanx -Nate
  9. You can get the ZR trems off www.ibanezrules.com but expect to pay quite a bit. What I would do is get the part # and go to guitar center and haggle em down. I recently got a BRAND NEW gold lo pro kit for $150 that they had to special order for me. Just tell em that the music store down the street said they would give it to you for $160.
  10. Honestly, I think we should make a calender or somthing with GOTM. I think that would be pretty cool to have hanging in the shop...
  11. Hi all. I just recently got 3, yes 3, FREE CNC lathes from my brother's CAD teacher. I have all the software and everything for them, and my brother knows how to do all that CNC stuff (all i need to get is an old computer for running this stuff). Anyways, I have NO CLUE what I could use these for in terms of making guitars or anything for that matter (except for maybe making dowels out of wood and using them for dot inlays). I would love to hear some ideas on what you think I could do with these since I can't think of anything really usefull. BTW, when I get these things up and running, his teacher is going to give us a CNC mill for FREE! When I get that puppy in my hands, the real fun will begin. Pickguards, brigdes, inlays... I cant WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Ever get the bit wrapped in your T-shirt? Dont that a few times too. ← Actually, I was shaping my neck with a belt sander, got it a little too close to my t shirt, and VIOLA! I was shirtless in the blink of an eye! LOL. Luckily it was only a white hanes shirt and not one of my cool concert shirts.
  13. I am building a guitar from padauk zebrawood and a little bit of purple heart. I have laminated tthem all together and band sawed it out into my favorite guitar, a JEM. I sanded a scrap piece (Thank god I did!), and the orange padauk dust is collecting in the zebawood pores. I've searched throughout the site and came up with no solutions to my problem. I am sanding it with 220 grit sandpaper, if I went to a higher grit do you think less dust would collect in the pores? Or should I not sand at all? Also, is there any way of removing the sawdust after its already in there.
  14. I want to put the connectors for EMGs on some of my other pickups. I think it would work, and would be great for trying out differnt pickups. Anyways, does anyone know what they are called, and where i can order em from? I would think radioshack would carrey em. Sorry if this has already been coverd, but i did a search and didnt see anything.
  15. Well, i have been using a Finex FX300, the HVLP gun. A while ago, i have posted a topic about too much orange peel, well, i started spraying my bodies flat instead of haning up and boy, it took care of 99% of the orange peel. Anyways, i considering i havent had any major problems with my gun, i dont think there should be any problems with another model, but then again, it is a differnt gun.
  16. I read the tutorial and dont really understand. What are the other types of guns other than HVLP that will provide a satisfactory finish?
  17. I currently have a Finex HVLP spray gun but am not liking how it sprays. time after time I end up with orange peel. I have tweeked the paint and air valves to try to find the right setting but I still have problems. The guy at the auto store said if I buy a more expensive gun I will end up with little to no orange peel. I have the money to buy it, it's just I would like some advice on a good gun to get. Currently I am only spraying a two part polyurethane but am planning to spary colors soon, as I am almost ready to spray my custom JPM. Please, any help would be greatly appriciated.
  18. Ibanez did it with the JEM77BFP. It is actually a picture instead of fabric, like the FP.
  19. It is actually a fanned fret system, which there is a thread floating around somwhere in this forum that has more details about it. I am actually thinking about doing one when i get the time and a little bit of energy
  20. Thank you guys so much for the help. It was actually the grounding connection, but the computer monitor DID play a part in the hum.
  21. Freakin sweet. How much would this cost to build, and would it be able to shape some pretty intracite inlays?
  22. Hi. I just got done wiring one of my new guitars and there is some crazy humming goinig on. I lined the pickup, input and control cavities with aluminum tape and followed the wiring diagram just as it said. Its got 2 7-string humbuckers. When i plug it in, it hums realy bad, but when i start to play, the hum goes away a little bit but is still there. when i touch the volume or the tone knob, and the sheilding tape, it hums even more. i had a grounding wire to the trem, but i took it off cuz of the excessive humming when i touch the strings. can anybody help me out?
  23. Well, im lazy, so on my swirls, i just prime, wet sand, prime again, wet sand, and swirl with testors spray enamel. BTW, if you use green, DO NOT USE TESTORS or anything else that you have not tested. I have had nothing but bad luck with greens, and the only kind that really works is Boyd enamels.
  24. So what kind of paint is used on the Pettruci Music Mans? Is it more of the cheaper stuff or the expensive stuff? As a side note, my dad was going to paint his whole plane with the expensive stuff, untill he found out how expensive it would be to do the whole thing. Now he's just gonna put color changing pinstripes, lol.
  25. Thans for the replies guys. I actually dont plan on buyin an axe at GC and cannibalizing it. I just emailed Rich at ibanezrules. It says he has these trems in stock, so i think i am going to have to buy one, even though i got the other half of my tuition due Oct 14th lol. i might go to GC however and take measurments as best i can on an s sereies there.
