  1. Yeah thats what I figured. What did you use as the green finish?
  2. Cool I really like that. Looks like a pickle or something. How's that GFS neck?
  3. Oooh I'm lovin this one. Keep it up John.
  4. This guy made a pretty cool tele out of bamboo, cool stuff - http://www.bradslab.com/2008/11/ It looks like he started some bamboo necks too.
  5. Wow nice deals. Ebay? Nice Job on the binding too.
  6. http://cgi.ebay.ca/OVER-5-FEET-RED-ABS-GUI...=item2c5192be7b There ya go. I've ordered a few times from these people, they're good.
  7. That mannequin one is ridiculous! crazy stuff.
  8. +1 haha I've always noticed your grass in your pics. Oh and nice guitar too.
  9. Those Bartolinis are pretty cool, not cheap though. Those selects would be nice on the budget. I'll keep my eye out for those, Schaller site doesnt seem to be working right now. I'm not sure that is entirely correct. I am not really familiar with Jaguars, but I think their pickup is different than Strat type single coil. Seymour Duncan and several others have eliminated the triangular base to allow replacement of EMG pickups, while keeping the SC look and sound and dimensions. In fact after a quick search here are the dimensions Single Coil http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/dime...pages/as-1.shtm Jaguar http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/dime...es/sjag-2.shtml Thanks for the info. I may just go with Seymour Duncan, seeing as I'm also trying to get ones with cream covers, and I have no idea whether or not those emg covers come off..... ?
  10. I'm trying to find a couple different examples of single coil pickups that have a smaller bottom piece of flatwork. Sort of like this example from Seymour Duncan: Notice how the bottom piece of flatwork doesn't have a triangular piece extending from under for attaching the leads. I've been searching for other pickups with the same design feature, but the ones at seymour duncan are the only ones I can find. I'm probably just not searching the right thing or something. So if anyone has some they could suggest that'd be great. It's purely for aesthetic reasons that I'm looking for these. Just trying to see what else is out there. Thanks
  11. Thanks for the reply. I actually dont have a multimeter, but it would be very handy for this so I might get one. Basically with the coil tapping pot, I'm trying to regulate how much signal from the first coil makes it into the second coil by being able to control how much of it is sent to ground. At least I think thats what I'm doing, I'm pretty new to this. I'll give that middle lug idea a shot, but If they were soldered to the same lug - wouldnt they be connected to eachother, just making it a regular humbucker and not coil tapped? Also, say I have this 1M pot incorrectly wired, or the humbucker is dead or something --- with the blend pot I should be getting some signal from the single coil right? (assuming thats not dead too)
  12. I just strung up my first build before finishing it to test it out and maybe figure out the electronics. I thought I may have had it figured out, but no sound came out when I plugged in. I've since fiddled with it a few times but still no luck. Here's where I'm at now: The 500k pot is the volume, 250k is tone, the blend pot is blending between pickups and the 1M pot is what I'm trying with coil tapping. Basically with the 1M pot, I'm trying to control how much sound comes from one of the two coils in the humbucker. I was thinking that with it all the way down, I would have a coil tapped-ish sound, and with it all the way up I would have the full sound of the humbucker. The green wire coming from the humbucker is supposed to be the regular humbucker output. The gray and red wires are the end of the first coil and start of the second. I may have the colour code mixed up but I have tried switching the two back and forth with no luck. And the orange wire from the single is the hot wire I believe, again I have tried switching the wires with no luck. Anyway I have what's on the diagram soldered up right now but it doesnt work. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
  13. you still have to choose grain that will do that. Really? ok yeah i can see that. The grains going outward sort of... ?
  14. The grain just looks like its following the body shape because of the carved top. Nice finishes for sure.
  15. I really like this one, turned out nice!
  16. make that 2 votes, looks pretty sick!
  17. Exactly, otherwise they'd have to come up with a separate process which adds costs like training and new jigs/templates. yeah never thought of it like that. makes sense.
  18. That's a REALLY good price. My question for it is why would you do the skunk stripe when you have a separate fretboard? That one makes no sense to me. Haha same here, I have a little squire with the skunk stripe and separate fretboard. I've never been able to figure out the logic behind that one. And that has to be the best price on one of those things I have ever seen.
  19. Theres plenty of guitar building videos on youtube as well, some better than others. There good for seeing different ways of doing it.
  20. I'm generally not one for explorers, but that ones really nice! Very classy. The abalone topped knobs work well too.
  21. The animals arent doing it for me gotta say. Also I dont know what your methods are but for me, they would make it awfully hard to do a good job on the rest of the work you need to do i.e. routing cavities, drilling, etc. Also unless your doing a pickguard and a topmounted bridge, you're going to have to do some drilling or routing on the back, which will be a biiettch. Forget doing a control cavity cover on that back too. Combination of that and the left over finish from the carvings just looks real messy IMO. If I were you, I'd take 'em out. Just my $0.02.
