I am building an explorer and i wanted to make a neck out of Croatian oak cause it is a realy hard wood BUT i got a small peace and i will cut it and use for a fretboard but i bought peace of walnut and it is realy good quality.
So a question for you guys: How are your experiences with walnut necks?
Progress so far:
Body fresh under the saw:
Body sanded:
just a thin coat of paint over the body (not dried yet), to see marks and where to sand...
i will post pictures when i'm finished routing for the pickups and neck pocket... cheers
my first guitar was Dean zx, realy good guitar, good paint resistance, very good humbuckers... not too much money but one hell of a guitar!
Good for thrash metal and hard rock

Yesterday i prepared and sanded the walnut and cut the rough shape, today i will sand the contours and give the wood the final shape... will post some pictures later... stay tuned
i realy like the guitar, its awesome... BUT the wing is a bit too big for me! everything else is just the way i like it, i'd say an A not A+ just because that wing
woow... that is one hell of a guitar... i realy like wood, i dont like to destroy the beauty of nature with paint... way to go M8
Keep on just like that, cheers
My friend had a SX guitar with a floyd rose and he smashed the guitar... he said the floyd isnt that bad so i could use it for this guitar and spend money for something else like humbuckers... here is the guitar on Harmony central reviewed

i will probably use a bolt on neck... my drawing is not final, so i can change it during the process and make it better... thnx guys...
btw: what do i have to change on this guitar to put floyd rose... is there difference in neck angle, string spacing...?
Ok guys... this is my 3. project this year but its second on guitar project... i have started a Jackson "modified"explorer i will use walnut for this one! so here are specs:
25" scale, 24 frets
one peace Walnut body
Croatian oak, cherry - Neck
Cherry fretboard
2 x Seymour Duncan Distortion SH-6 Humbucker
Gibson LP bidge & tail piece (black)
I bought walnut today:
And this is how the guitar should look like:
I think this is going to be a long project... i don't have cherry but i will buy it next week!
and i don't have lots of time so...
P.S. Sorry for my bad English i'm from Croatia
Okay now... i am beggining a new project this week... i have old fender stratocaster without neck and i will modify it an put some guitar tuners and effect processor in it... this is my first attempt to do something like that... but in electronics im not new i made myslf guitar amp with 120 watt power!!!
so il try to make this guitar special... STAY TUNED!!
yes... first pic. is taken before i shaped the horns and whole body again!!
today i shaped holes in the wood for magnets and other electronics...
after shaping the wood i will paint it... hm... there will be not much painting cause i will only draw picture and "burn" it on guitar...
before cutting the wood i was thinking i will make bass guitar but after i saw other guitars i redesigned the blueprints and started cutting the wood in dimensions for standard el. guitar!!!
after a long pause i am comming back to my guitar!!! originaly it was supose to be a bass guitar but... i changed my mind!!
is it any good???
