  1. I dont think developing your own style is really the issue here, there is nothing wrong with wanting to emulate cool stuff you see to a certain extent. In this particular case I would say it's more that it isn't something you can 'learn' as such, so you'd be better off not trying to think about it too much If you want it to, that sort of thing will just come naturally after you've been playing for longer and your more comfortable in a particular zone... Just keep doing whatever it is you are doing, it will sort itself out on its own - Dan
  2. If your going to get either, get a Carvin instead and then spend the rest on something else Everybody wins! - Dan
  3. Actually I'd be inclined to say that Zakk looks like more of a fool than Dimebag ever did I can't say that i'd ever thought that Zakk was copying dime... although I can see some similarities now that you mention it. - Dan
  4. I've played some Tokai guitars that would give a Gibson a run for its money too...
  5. Even though I really don't like the whole biker image Zakk has gone with nowadays, I have always sorta respected how he wasn't afraid to go right from being Ozzy's right hand man in metal destruction to playing stuff like 'Dead as Yesterday'. That said, I'm not a big fan of 'In this River' either... along with a lot of his newer songs for that matter. Whenever Zakk grinds out an awesome riff it gets overproduced to the extent that the end track is just a mess. Some people call it a "sonic assault", but I call it a mess I can see how people would say that it would have been more fitting to tribute dime with a totally kickass metal song, but the guy was grieving, and since none of us actually knew dime well enough to do any more than just throw mud from the sidelines, you've got to draw the line somewhere. You may not like the song, but yeah... I've lost my train of thought - Dan
  6. I cannot beleive someone is going to pay $1000USD+ for that. Sure its very nice... but ONE THOUSAND dollars!?! its madness! Thats like 2/3 of what I am paying for my custom ormsby... 10 hours and 21 minutes... should be heaps of time for the guy to come up with a good enough excuse to hopefully stop his wife beating him with a baseball bat - Dan
  7. Hi there, welcome to the forums Having not actually heard of the Yamaha Weddington before you brought it up, I can't give you any real information, but just incase you hadn't seen this already, I found this with Google: http://www.johnbmorris.com/weddington.htm The rear photos show a slightly different sort of set-neck to the one they used on their AES models... maybe that will help a bit? Cheers, - Dan
  8. I got a warmoth body and neck delivered to me here in Queensland and I can tell you the quality was excellent, you need not worry there. Postage was... a pain. If the total is going to exceed $1000AU, then your in for some fun with customs (lots of forms and an extra $50 on top of the GST/Duty)... otherwise, just get it posted standard airmail and be ready to *maybe* pay 10%GST and 5% Duty, depending on the value of the stuff and how nice the customs people are feeling. If you use UPS, then be prepared for some serious fees, ESPECIALLY if the goods are worth over $1000AU. They will charge for taxes, brokerage, drinks, plane fuel, damage to the ozone layer, inflight entertainment and sometimes even snacks. I've even heard of cases where the UPS charges were in excess of 50% of the value of the goods. But the upside is that it will get to you fast, and its fully insured and such. Good luck - Dan
  9. Listen to that advice dude. Im no expert on SRV's guitars, so don't take what I say as gospel, but regardless I will do my best to push you in the right direction. If your ordering from warmoth, what you will need is (and keep in mind i could be corrected on this): - Alder strat body, both forearm and tummy contours - Tobacco Burst finish - maple neck (perhaps with the tinted gloss finish to give it that amber look?) - brazillian rosewood fingerboard - 6100 frets - left handed strat tremolo (gold) - some hot fender singlecoils... i think there is some called texas specials or something that could get you pretty close? Warmoth should have most of the stuff your looking for so you could order most of it all at once, however you may find some parts cheaper elsewhere. Once you have a clearer idea of what you want, give them a call or an email and lay it out to them so they can give you a hand as well. As far as the pickguard goes, since you cant look around on ebay its going to be hard. I understand the motivation for wanting a replica of his guitar, but my personal opinion is that you shouldnt burn yourself out looking to replicate every little detail, like the decals and stuff for example, or the exact same pickups. It doesn't matter how perfect you get it, you still won't sound like stevie... so maybe there are some aspects of the guitar you dont need to go too crazy trying to replicate. Hope that helps a bit, - Dan
  10. I have no real issue with it being legalized, however I am 100% of the opinion that if some fool is caught playing up while under the influence of the stuff then the law should come down on them like a ton of bricks. A number of years ago 3 of my friends were coming back from a trip to the coast for a football game and on their return trip their van was slammed by a bunch of interstate tits in a rented car who were going for a drive down the highway after taking bong hits. Later I managed to find out that the driver of the rented car swore on his life that he swerved to miss a pack of schoolchildren sitting on the road.... at 2am. I lost a good friend on that night, and the other 2 were seriously injured. Even though it was a while back now and I am over it, I would be lying if I said that the actions of those few guys hasn't influenced my opinion on the matter a little. You cant help but hold onto a bit of animosity after something like that. So yeah... I can see some good things coming from its legalization, but I would like to see a zero tolerance and zero mercy policy in place for those caught fudging up (to put it nicely) while their high. I voted Yes - Dan
  11. It is my understanding that you would adjust the studs on either side of the bridge to correct problems with string height, and leave the saddle adjustment for correcting intonation issues. There is a bunch of great tutorials on this subject that can be found here: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/tutorial1.htm Specifically relating to your question though, check out the links on that page: "String Height and Bridge adjustment" and "Adjusting the intonation of a guitar". However if you were giving your guitar a full setup I would encourage you to read through the whole tutorial on setting up a solid body electric. Hope that helps, - Dan
  12. Thanks for the advice mate, I was thinking the same with regard to selling it as parts, which is why I listed what I paid for both seperately, however I probably shouldnt have been more clear. I will only sell it if I have to... so hopefully I wont have to. That said though... since buying this I have discovered I am really not a floyd rose kinda guy. Like, I thought it was just because I suck with one, but lately ive been trying them out more and more... and I honestly just have no desire whatsoever to learn :S Anyway.. maybe I will just sell the body and hold onto the neck, and one day I will buy a solid Koa body without the floyd rose routing and give it another shot - Dan
  13. Haha Do you want to sponsor me to do that?
  14. Howdy, I really don't want to have to do this, but since my amp has died again and needs replacing, I have to sell off this warmoth body and neck I bought some months ago in order to build up some cash. I'm not necessarily offering it up for sale here at PG just yet, I am actually just trying to get an idea of what I might be able to get for it, so if you can give me an idea, I would appreciate it Both items are in immaculate condition and the worksmanship is excellent throughout both the body and the neck Body: - Alder with a 1/8" Lamination of Flamed Koa - Routed for HXH and a recessed original floyd rose trem - Standard Strat heel - Both tummy and forearm contours - Finished in clear gloss Neck: - Maple Neck - Rosewood Fingerboard - Abalone Dot Inlays - Reverse KWS Headstock with Koa veneer - Stainless Steel 6115 Frets - 25-1/2" Scale - Routed for R4 Nut - Finished in clear gloss I paid about $460USD for the body and $350USD for the neck, and that was about... 2-3 months ago I guess? Its barely been touched since... Thanks again - Dan
  15. Your right idch, that would be handy, and I am pretty sure there are plugins for Invision Board that use image editing packages for PHP to resize pictures in img tags down to thumbnails automatically, however generally they would only work on forums where users can upload image attachments to their posts. As we all know PG doesn't allow this for bandwidth reasons, so that is basically ruled out here. Still, as Greg said, it would be easy for posters to handle it themselves. Simply make two versions of the image (large and small) and then when your posting just wrap the for the small image in a to the large one. For the people who are unsure how to resize images with an image editing program or find it a PITA, windows utilities like this: http://download.microsoft.com/download/whi...wertoySetup.exe will allow you to resize photo's by right clicking on them and clicking "resize picture". - Dan
  16. Yeah i had checked out Ashdown, but they are fairly hard to get here, and the one place I did find wasnt local at all and the guy i spoke to was a real idiot Also I am a bit weary of going for anything that is advertised as being made for downtuning and 7 strings and lots of bass I am really seriously turned on by the look of Genz Benz though... I am doing my research on them now and im hearing nothing but good things, so I might see what I can get in their range (the 60w combo looks good). As usual though, the dealers listed for Australia dont appear to have anything to do with them lol. Looks like I might have to import and get the power converters ect. Is there any special issues I need to be aware of with tube amps when it comes to importing to a region with different power standards? - Dan
  17. Indeed it is the TT50, sorry about that Not good for scooped metal eh? Well that is a road I like to go down so I guess ill scratch that, especially for $2700. No I have never checked out Hughes and Kettner, but I will look into them now - thanks for the suggestion dude. - Dan Edit: Ok I actually was walking by the local shop when I was getting the mail and they had a H&K Duotone sitting in there, so I gave it a shot. It was nice, but no dice I think. If I have to, I dont mind running my GT-6 through it for distortion, but I would rather something that can hold its own and get some better chug on its own. What about the Marshall TSL601/602 models? Are they known for being equally unreliable? Becuse Almost all of my options are being ruled out haha. Perry suggesed a bloke locally to him in Western Australia who apparently makes really killer tube amps for great prices (for the time being at least until he raises his prices), and ive heard good things about the Carvin tube combo's, but the problem is that I can't hear either of them before I buy, and Id like to know for myself that they have the balls I require I hear a lot of people say (especially on harmony central) that an amp has "SSOOO MUCH DISTORTION LOLOL" and when I try it for myself its a bit weak...
  18. Looking great dude, I love the amount of activity in that wood... its wild! - Dan
  19. Hi there, Im looking at picking up a tube combo sometime in the near future, and I am after one that has a fair bit of chug about it. 3 Channel with a EQ controls on each would be nice, but its not an absolute necessity. I noticed a music shop that I quite like (but usually doesnt carry a good enough range to be really useful) deals in Laney equipment, so I did a bit of checking and it appears the TT40 might be a good one for me, but it also appears it is going to cost me $2700AUD. Does anyone have any opinions on this amp? Id be very keen to hear them, as while I try and find somewhere to try one out I am looking around trying to guage if they are worth such a large sum of money. For the same amount I could get the Marshall TSL122 tube combo which is a 100w 2x12... but I didn't really need that much power you see. Any help or advice would be appreciated. - Dan
  20. All I meant by my comment was that the turqoise clashes in my eyes. I adore everything else about the guitar and I admire the effort that must have gone into it, inlays included. I admit that I know very little about the culture that inspired that guitar, and I can fully appreciate that someone else might find it downright sexy, but from a purely design standpoint the turqoise and the other aggregate colours of the neck/fingerboard do not go together very well. I guess if your more knowledgable on the cultural motivations you would be more accepting and used to it. - Dan
  21. Thats a bit of a generalisation I think. I am one of those people, but I am certainly not afraid of confrontation and I think this sort of discussion is a good thing. Over the last few years on internet forums I have seen more and more people pop up who are just rude to others and hide behind their "rights" or the fact that they are being "honest". It's called good manners, and its something everyone should have been brought up with, and just because no-one can touch you on the internet doesn't mean everyone shouldnt maintain a healthy level of respect - thats called maturity. Luckily, compared to a lot of other forums around, project guitar is pretty good on that front I must say, which is nice to see. That said though, sometimes there are people (new and old members alike, but mostly the new ones) who just need a good kick up the arse, and I am all for that. Everyone has to learn one way or another, its just that people have to remember that most of the time things can be sorted in a polite manner. - Dan
  22. No way, the mods here are good. Wes freaks me out a bit though.... Seriously though, managing a public forum on the internet is a messy ordeal and there is no two ways about it. All things considered PG is moderated quite well - I certainly don't have any problems with how things are done here. - Dan
  23. Oh how I wish there was a way to put that whipping sound into a writing
  24. I love the use of the wood in that guitar, but god! Those inlays... totally ruin it for me. Maybe its just photo (but i doubt it), but the colour just just doesn't work in nicely and shats all over what is a very very beautiful guitar - Dan Edit: Also, I cant beleive he inlayed the top... I didnt even know that was possible haha Very cool.
