  1. Brian, i found the following tools, in fact some with the exact same descriptions: Your right, the prices did shock me! Same Magnifying glasses, $4.99 (versus $19.95) Same Sanding sponges, $4.99 for 10 (versus $10 for 10) Multimeter, $7.99 (versus $14.95)
  2. That might be true Westheman, but they are selling them, and they arent available at too many other stores... Check out the LMI version, from memory its three or four times the price.
  3. That was going to be my next post
  4. Yeah, i can get a plain aluminium mitre box for $20 too.... but it doesnt come with the correct width saw, the pin for the stewmac fretboard templates, the bushes to align the special saw to avoid side movement, etc etc etc. Sure, i could spend an entire day modifying a cheaper mitre box, but id rather work for money, and buy the right gear. I mean, for me to take a trip down to the local hardware store, i have to take an hour off work... theres $25 already, adding $20 for a mitre box = $45!! Then, the mitre box needs to be modified.... and you still need to purchase the actual saw... Some things are worth mucking around with, some arent.
  5. Brian, are you saying this is expensive?? Its a $25 saving over a Stewmac one.
  6. please please please learn to use photo editting software.... Those images are more than ten times larger than they need to be. I pity those on dialup...
  7. Speedy, you'll do yourself out of work if you tell your customers how, where, and what to buy from other sources... which is exactly what you'll be doing if you admit to buying in all the parts. We all buy in pickups, frets, tuners, bridges, wire, pots, etc etc etc. You are simply buying two more components out of 50 or so, that make up a guitar. I'd rather see you make your own bodies and necks though, it isnt hard to do. Westheman, the bent neck dive bomb was one of Randy Rhoads favorite techniques. I would not hesitate to do it to any guitar i own, as i know what force is neccessary to snap a neck... a lot more than you think. Cut out a rough neck blank and give it a go, you might surprise yourself (i know you will, actually).
  8. Brian, how long are you able to hold these prices for??
  9. westheman, thats the exact reason you dont put LEDs in the fretboard either. Use optical fibre instead.
  10. You only need to remove the fretboard if its already glued down. Even if is, its not a $600 job to remove the fretboard and do it.
  11. LGM is right, there is no way you could get 12 LEDs for $5.00... THATS A RIP OFF. You would get more like around 50..... i pay a retail price of $14.00AUD ($8 USD) for 100 5mm LEDs. 3mm are even cheaper... Im currently doing a guitar for a customer that wants LEDs. I talked him into optical fibre and only charged him $100 (standard price). It takes about an hour extra to do the neck, and an hour to make the brackets for the optical fibre/LED join, and wire it up. It actually takes longer to use LEDs rather than optical fibre, and their is a chance that one LED will eventually fail (or all of them). With optical fibre thats not an issue.
  12. So.... how is this finish done?? Details please!!
  13. Isnt there a company already doing this?? Ive seen the ads in guitar magazines. Never seen their stickers on a guitar though, and to be honest, i think it makes it look cheap. Vinyl pretend inlays are one step lower than those self adhesive abalone stickers, which are much more exclusive looking, and still cop a bad rap. My opinion is that its a waste of your time, but please proove me wrong!
  14. Clavin, my sugestion to you would be to do a search on the net for cheaper prices than that. I pay half those costs for inlay materials. 3mm x 3mm square silver rod is only $18 per foot.
  15. $6000 for materials alone sounds a bit excessive. Care to list what $6000 has bought??
  16. I could make you a carbon fibre pickguard. Or at least send you a flat piece of it. Not cheap though! And hard to cut....
  17. You can actually get an additive that you mix with the 2pak to give it more "flex" for painting over acrylic, but its not advised. You may have heard people talk about "bare metal resprays" when they talk about cars, thats because the cars were originally sprayed with acrylic, and it all needs to be stripped. On something like a guitar, which is usually kept in a roughly climate controlled area (your house as opposed to the sun and rain outside), it shouldnt be too much of a problem, but i have seen 2pak peel off in full sheets when applied over acrylic. 2pak primer is supposed to be better under an acrylic top coat, but im not sure if the differences could be measured, or someone was guessing.... might make more of a difference for cars, not guitars.
  18. Umm, that would be the other way around... 2pak base will work with acrylic colour and clear, but 2pak over acrylic is a no no.... Acrylic moves/shrinks/expands/sinks over time, 2pak doesnt. You DO NOT want a rubbery base with a rock hard coat over it, it wont stick.
  19. Yep, ive done that. Used gold mirror backed perspex. Didnt notice any difference in the shielding, but it was a duel humbucker guitar, so it shouldn't really matter. I think ive got some left over, might be enough for a few guitars.
  20. Thanks, ive checked out all those sources previously. As for price, there is no use trying to get the cheapest price if the company wont respond. Ive even tried getting an account from the distributor here in Australia, but it is still more expensive (wholesale price is 50% more than buying retail from the USA!).
  21. Im looking for a geniune floyd rose supplier, and obviously i want the cheapest price. Ive found two that sell the entire kit (including locking nut): Ed Roman: $139 (as the basis to compare prices) VH Guitar Store: $139 (because ive seen them support this forum) Neither will answer my emails, so its a bit hard to place an order with them. Im looking to buy a minimum of twelve over the next 12 months, one a month. If things go to plan, i'll most likely need two a month though. Maybe they dont want the troubles of sending floyd roses to Australia?? Can anyone suggest a place online that will do cheap prices, AND answer their emails??
  22. Just paint the black over the white, no need to clear in between. Use good quality masking tape, not the cheap stuff, and press it down well to get a nice line. It may go a little "fuzzy", so use some 600-800 grit to smooth it off prior to clearing the whole lot.
  23. Murray, where in WA are you?? Im in Vic Park.
  24. BeAR, i need more sleep, and your 110% correct. Ive just set the intonation on two cheap floyd knock offs, and one kahler, and they all had saddle adjustments. Case of mistaken identity i suppose!! As for the paper under the saddle... if a jobs worth doing, its worth doing properly. As someone else suggested, cut up a beer can. Only last week someone on this forum (was it this one?)was commenting how his guitar neck had been shimmed with sandpaper.
