  1. In each pic is the dimensions. sorry bout not getting back to you I am trying to get something for you. -Derek
  2. I like Jabi, but had to go with the stew craft! You should submit that to fine woodworking its a piece!!!!! I am a sucker for old mahogany boats. I want one for me =) Good job to all.
  3. I am not a fan of the spalt.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=7338882541
  4. I might as well chime in, Drak has been rough on me, but... its like that teacher in school that pushed you, I am still here and getting better. I enjoy his comments, though strong, he critiques my work to make it better, few people have the gusto to do that. I understand what he is doing, I agree with him most of the time. I think his leaving for a brief time was due to other facts, I see his points. Now lets buy some of my wood =). check out the auction section.
  5. pops works for Ace Hardware, you would be surprised to how much of this stuff was free.
  6. Its time to clean almost done getting things straight. Once I complete the WIP I will setup a more formal process. Anyway here you go. I have three shops. Garage, downstairs and my 3rd bedroom as a packing/computer space. http://www.bigdguitars.com/myshop/
  7. 50k on a shop? I have some swamp land in IL that I want to sell you. You can get a awesome shop together for very little. I have an industrial router 2k, sander 1k band saw 1k. Then other little tools drill presses edge sanders. with 50k you would have more than enought for a ton of stuff. one thing to consider, power... how you going to run everything always comes into play.
  8. it depends on so many things. I spray wildly. I get lumps and bubbles. I start with 320 then move up to 1500. Then I buff with Menza, then with the fine menza. My first coats are thick, but the final spray should be very light and LGM is right on in terms of just going over it...
  9. Getting a good shop costs $$$$. my thoughts are like yours. one day I would like to leave the 9-5 desk job. In the meantime I am acquiring tools and all of that. I have been doing tops for about 1 yr now and I resaw them, if I had sharp knives on my planer snipe was not so bad. I just bought the performax 16-32 yesterday. will post a pic of my workshop soon, its now done other than finishing equipment.
  10. will do so. I thought I had somethign on my website.
  11. woodworkers supply can make custom band saw blades. this this is great for resawing with a 1.3 inch blade. Just get a fence add on, so its taller.
  12. deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=7338373485
  13. I am thinking of getting one of those cheapo units from menards that 3/4hp and mount it to my 55 gal drum -Derek
  14. I am really getting into making guitar bodies and I am making a huge mess. I need a better dust collection system there are some good things on ebay, but I need some other ideas... What have you done for your own dust collection? -Derek
  15. go for a neck through and taper the sides like a jem, even more so... just make sure your core is thick enough. not having done it just a suggestion =) as for electronics: for tight space I have a set of mini electronics, pots ect that are about 1/2 the normal size. we have fit these on arch top pickguards. that way you can get around the 3way switch size. If you want a 5way switch you maybe sol, I can't rememeber seeing one in mouser. hope this helps -derek
  16. I always wanted to play one of those Carvin Fatboy guitars, the construction was pretty neat, not so sure what it would sound like though. http://www.carvin.com/products/guitar.php?ItemNumber=HF2 I would repsond drak but its not worth it.
  17. Drak no fun today huh? thats what makes us who we are. =) One thing for sure is that chambering has two effects: one it reduces the weight of a guitar body that is known. you can weigh it. two it has some effect on tone. What it is cannot be measured unless you the time and can find enough data to prove your point.
  18. not from what I have seen on ebay. Its like taking an old honda accord. The parts are worth more than the car. Even though you can drive the car and it functions. Once you part the car out it becomes worth more. I used to look for project guitar with good pickups. I would search ebay over and over. I bought 4 or 5 guitars that have Duncans or EMG's in them, sell the pickups and I had a guitar. or I would sell the neck and body sep and keep the pickups. Go search Project guitar on ebay. Then search luthier. A lot comes up.
  19. You won't get more than what you paid for it. I know that much. Having pawned 10's of warmoth stuff on ebay. you would never get 1400 bucks complete to sell that. The whole point of warmoth is to buy what you want... You will have much better luck selling as pieces than as a one piece. I have bought soo many guitars that contain warmoth parts and turned them around to make more money. List pieces seperate would be best. the neck is nothing special and not many people like that headstock shape. the body you may have more luck with
  20. lol yea you are right. So someone tell me what the difference is between semi hollow and chambering. Becuase some of what I have seen here is more or less semihollow
  21. I think I like tele... crazy how the first guitar ever got it all so right.
  22. having done my research on alot of es345 355 and what not, many articles claim f holes allow for feedback. BB King was looking for a guitar with reduced feedback thats why he wanted lucille, no f holes.
  23. From what I have read, and seen in my three hollow guitars. Feedback is reduced if you do not have f holes. F holes allow the wood to move more than if you don't.
  24. lol... I think we need to start a fund so brian can get DSL or something of the sort. where in FLA is he?
