    um no not really, don't add shims leave the guitar as it. Adding a gibson type bridge is a hassel. Build a guitar with an angle then go from there. Conversion is not a good idea... by the time you get it setup right its not worth it.

    I have no idea on the snakewood board, some of the really high end builders like warrior use it a lot, its expensive as all heck. I have heard that its awesome sounding. I think I might go with the quilted birdseye top with the snake wood board.

    Well I bought a lucille as an investment guitar a couple of weeks ago. It was a very risky transaction because the guy had no ebay feedback, but I got a certified check and mailed it to him via certified mail so that way I could legally go after him. Anyway, got the guitar and its by far the nicest sounding guitar that I have ever played. The action is super low, the guitar is weathered nicely, its starting to age nicely too, and the sound oh gosh. The problem is I was going to turn this around and try to make a buck. But I have never played a guitar this nice... I have played some PRS customs, and some old vintage teles and nothing compares to this guitar... I don't know how to convince the wife that this is it... should I sell some of my other guitars? or what would you do? I mean the guitar is really that nice no BS...

    make a deck out of it not a guitar... technically speaking the more dense the wood the more the highs come out. so an all maple guitar will be brighter sounding that an all poplar guitar. everything else being equal.

    if you are a shredder then thats a cool guitar... if you are not then the design is not playable... imagine if you drop it, cracking off a horn? waste of a guitar if that happens

    resaw with a frame saw, builds those arms up nice and big... if you are buying a band saw machine, the bigger the better. Get at least a 1hp 14'

    Well its time to make my next guitar. i have way too many options to choose from. I know my pickups are going to be slash humbuckers and its going to be lp shaped. But what woods should I choose? i have some 5a flammed maple, I have some 5a quilted maple, I am going to use mahogany body, mahogany neck. I have my choice of fretboard material. I have some santos rosewood, I have snakewood, I have some ebony. I really don't know and I am looking for some suggestions. what do you guys thinks? pics...

    This is a little crazy but.... I wash my hands with a non residue leaving soap like irish spring, something that dries your hands out. My wife calls it my special guitar soap. Then I wipe down my strings with a paper towel everyonce in a while. I take each string and essentially clean it with the towel moving up and down. Also, when you put on your new strings tune it up and let it sit for over 8 hours, the strings will get used to the tension, don't play it right away. I got this out of guitar world or something some famous tech does it for clapton...

    I voted pro, can do almost any repair on an electric, can work on most acoustics, my building is getting closer to pro-ish... The next LP copy I make should put me over the top.... This time I am actually using a plan... I have all my templates except for a neck tenon, which I am making - slowly moving though. Its much nicer to be a on a beach during the summer than in my basement.

    poplar is the cheapest wood that sounds the best, for the price. you can get some at homedepot

    I have used slip plate paint - its graphite based - and it works ok. I would like to buy the stewmac stuff, but its too darn expensive.

    ask away, don't mind at all I had two 3/4 pieces of panga panga that cut out in the shape of a guitar, then I routed out the inards until I had about 3/16 of wood left. Then I glued the two pieces together and bam had a hollowed out guitar body. Dave Remember the post on large clamps? This is how I made this guitar... Think of a sandwich style guitar.
