  1. yea I know what you are talking about. I am sorry for your loss. my grandfather was a master craftsman, he loved walnut, had it everywhere. anyway, he had a solid walnut casket. was heavy as can be, my gramps was only 5'7 130, so the casket was about 1200 pounds... my dad was not happy but gramps had to have the nicest stuff... Still to this day we talk about how heavy that thing was.
  2. I have started to look at buying an acoustic guitar and want to know what everyone thinks that best value is for a guitar? I am looking to spend 500-1000 bucks and would buy used or new, but don't know where to start. I used a taylor for a couple of weeks, but it was a friends that I sold on ebay, liked that guitar, but what else is out there? thanks, Derek
  3. Mr. VWall I am looking for a Jackson JTX guitar... Its an old model from 1995ish. Specifically I want these pickups, can you talk to jackson and see if they still have these, or make ones to the same specs? Thanks, Derek
  4. gosh it started when I realized my sg was only a piece of painted wood, and that I had access to a **** ton of tools and wood. Plus my gramps was a master builder and I loved watching him work. I always said when I get the chance I will build a guitar. Well After getting laid off why not try it? hence 1 guitar has become a great business to boot, and if I get some funding I will start to crank out guitar blanks - bodies and necks. Everything on a guitar can be played around with, its a great thing, its like messing around with a car but with out droppin 20g's on space and tools. I am going to drop around 5g's into tools and I will have the ability to run a small custom wood shop. BTW I hate doing repairs. You get this shitty guitar in that a kid paid 500 bucks for and he thinks that its the best thing ever. so you start to point out some problems and that a re-fret might solve some not all of the action problems, and he is like ***... I tell him its wood and that it moves, thats life, whole houses settle. I only repair what I make makes life easier. I resawed the wood I cut it let it dry finished it. If there is a problem I will know why.
  5. For me personally its much harder to do a set neck. You have to have a jig setup to get the correct angle. With a neck through you can make the whole neck frets and all, glue the sides on, shape them a bit and spray... boom you are done. there are so many ways to do a set neck. Its fun to learn and build them both ways... i going to start building the set neck type of guitars. You have more options with them.
  6. http://mailboxmusic.zoovy.com/category/gui....hotrodbridges/ One of my buddies bought this bridge and its unreal. The best quality really heavy duty stamped parts, not some cheap crap. Plus the flames give it a really cool vibe. -Derek
  7. This jack ass is selling some of the stuff again... http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...sort=3&since=-1
  8. I was looking for a radioused board 12 degrees preferred. I just dont want to pay the costs of shippin from stewmac... I have found one on ebay the auction ends tomorrow we shall see if I win. will keep you posted Thanks, derek
  9. If you go on ebay and search bogen amplifier you can find the nicest amplifiers around for the price. Think of this, a kit will cost you 300 bucks. I have bought ten bogen amplifiers all different wattage ratings from 10 to 100 watts for less than 30 buck each. I know building an amp is a great learning experience, if thats what you are looking for. if you want a cool deal some great tube amps then I would do the ebay thing.
  10. Anyone willing to part with a slotted ebony fretboard from Stewmac or lmi? I need fender scale length 25.5 I need one and don;t need to place a full order. thanks, Derek
  11. lookin to mess around, anyone got a decent quality scalloped neck? dont' care about the frets. as long as the neck is in good condition. Need a pic if I am going to send cash. thanks, Derek
  12. Ok here is my entry. Flammed maple neck, mahogany, paduk, flammed birch sides. Hand carved top, fender gold sensor pickups. cocobolo fretboard. 25in scale jumbo frets and grover tuners. custom matched flammed maple control cavity. hand rubbed tung oil finish. This guitar was the second guitar that I made and was a dog, I recarved the top and reshapped the neck and its a player now sounds and feels awesome.
  13. when I built the guitar I thought about leaving the stickers off. But then I said what the hell I really like the way that guitar looks. I have a lot of SRV stuff around my house so this haning on the wall is just kinda cool, to the untrained eye I get, "was that his guitar?" so its kinda funny. Its a great sounding guitar, I opted out of the left trem only becuase I never use a trem. I went with the graphtech saddles cause they came with my freebie gold bridge. so all in all this was cheap to build only paid for the neck... I am working on doing an inlay on a guitar that has Big D in it, but I am not that advanced yet. Thank for all the comments.
  14. Here is my tribute. Same specs, got the stickers off some guy on ebay, paid 25 bucks for them, srv pickups, bought the warmoth neck to get the correct pao ferro fretboard??? lockin gold tuners. added my varitone switch to get some cool tones. this was my first experiment at aging a body. worked ok, I know that #1 is a sunburst, but dont have that equipment.
  15. Ok one piece body blank 13.75x19x1.75. Awesome quality wood no glue bidding starts at a buck Purple heart blank Bump, I have two pieces of this that I sawed in half. I offer 10% discount to forum members on this auction!
  16. I will look at the necks. Send me a pic. derek@bigdguitars.com
  17. The company that made this is called nomad. The amplifier is a Mustang 65. I think that that this is based off of a Mesa, but am not so sure, since I am screwing around with this thing.
  18. Does anyone know of or have a schematic for a nomad mustand 65? I have been looking for the schematic for months now and thought that I would ask... This is a mesa clone of with two el34 and a 12ax7, its 65w. Thanks! Derek
  19. LMI sells the same thing pretty much.... So I am assuming that someone makes it for them. Also The cut size is the same as Dunlop frets so all the other companies have to have something like this... Yea I am done with cheap tools, I am thinking that other manufactures have bought this or something close to it. just wondern
  20. I want to buy the .024 fretsaw blade from stu mac but 79 bucks is a chuckle, no way I am buying that blade from them, it costs them all of 10 bucks at the most. Who makes this anyone know? Is it freud?
  21. I custom make varitone switches only 40 bucks, comes with a chicken head knob, and dial plate. I have them on sale on ebay or your can purchase them directly through my site: BigDguitars Homepage If you are building a custom guitar this is a great replacement instead of a tone control, it has a full bypass so the real tone of your guitar comes out. The switch has 6 positions: Switch works in this format: Position 1 = Bypass - True bypass switch is pulled from the system, will not ruin your original tone! Position 2 = C1 - softer than bypass Position 3 = C2 - deeper tone than bypass, better response Position 4 = C3 - jazz box full Position 5 = C4 - jazz box mellow Position 6 = C5 -almost wommanish tone Any questions send me an email, questions@bigdguitars.com
  22. I am listing a rare Gibson Marauder Fretboard on ebay. Here for the link... Ebay Auction
