  1. http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/3d.htm but it will be very difficult to do that on the saga kit. afaik, the top is veneered but also sealed, and it is near impossible to sand the sealer off in order to get to the veneer without actually going right through it. you might want to just sand it right off, re-veneer with your own stuff, etc. this was the most common complaint i've read about the saga prs style kits... that being said, whatever you end up with will be totally playable.. the kits are a fun way of gettin' into things
  2. in general, how thick are everyone's templates? 1/2 inch SEEMS to be standard, but I don't really know.. I'd like to know what y'all use!
  3. www.allthelogos.com was suggested by someone on here...
  4. where are you located? I'm in Ontario, and i've found a good walk-in distributor in Burlington (it is like Christmas in there!) and also there is www.forloversofwood.com I think that site has american prices too...
  5. wood that you will use will have be dried, either with a kiln ($$) or with time (lots of it) i'm in the same boat as you, going to buy a lesser grade for my first attempt.. good luck! hehe, wish me the same
  6. are there any hardware issues with those bass saga kits? (ie, on the tele ones, the tuners simply must be upgraded) i just want a cheap bass for at school in case it gets stolen, and for the however many $ a cheapo one would cost, the saganators seem like a better deal...
  7. i love my Boomers. Use 'em on everything I own.
  8. i don't think you can link to attachments in your own email..
  9. nice to meet you! people here know a LOT. they also like to recommend that you use the search function, so be prepared j/k
  10. there is a tutorial under the "building bodies" section of project guitar on converting a trem to hardtail.. you could follow that (basically blocking things up) and then just install a TOM.. but you will not be able to save the finish as stated above
  11. i don't know of a jazz bass kit, and i don't think saga will make one
  12. that's a neat idea... how about a HH config with two mini switches and three-way toggle.. three-way works as usual... miniswitches regulate which coil/both coils of each individual pickup are playing. except i never would use the single coil in the bridge position at all..
  13. ok great.. i actually have cheques of my own (hehe, i'm not THAT behind) I just don't have a credit card... I'll get a used one from amazon i think.
  14. Anyone (preferably in Canada) have an extra copy of hiscock's book that they would like to sell me? I can't find it at any of the stores here. stupid chapters.
  15. PODs are awesome! and probably cheaper than getting a half-decent small-diaphragm condenser mic (which i like to use to mic guitar cabs)... although for like, a Shure SM57 (not a condenser but industry standard for a LOT of micing) the price will be less than a pod, and still workable.
  16. Sguitar, good luck with your project! Also, that guitar in your signature is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen
  17. you'll have to either buy a blank one and do the work yerself or take it in for a quick repair at someplace.. AFAIK, there are no pre-slotted nuts available.. i suppose i could be wrong though in the saga kits, that nut should be replaced anyway... if you're not going to be doing a lot of "nut swapping" (that seems so homoerotic!) your best bet is probably to just get someone else to do it, rather than invest in a set of nut files. someone else might be able to suggest some alternate tools, but I don't think my eye is steady enough to do it without 'em. luckily for me the shop i used to work at had a nice set, so I could do all mine there.
  18. also, i am aware that there is lots of physics and stuff required in proper cabinet building.. i'm just having a bit o' fun
