  1. When you refinish a guitar, is it not possible to only roughen up the previous paintjob and use this as a base? Or only strip about halfway? Cheers
  2. I'm thinking of refinishing my first guitar with a swirl. What do you have to do after the swirling? Cheers
  3. to ride on this topic, I found out that my intonation isn't completely what it's supposed to be on my thick E string, it sounds to high when I press the 5th fret. Just because I haven't tried anything yet and noticed this topic, do I have to move the saddle more to the bridge side or more to the neck side? Cheers
  4. I vote gibson for the explorer style headstock. In oher headstocks, I really like the Bo-el headstock: In fender headstocks I prefer the telecaster style headstock to the strat one, but generally I think they both are a bit cheap looking because of the lack of angle. I think I might be the only one on this forum (and don't kill me for it) but I don't like the Ken Lawrence style headstock at all.
  5. Thanks for the link! I have had some experience with electronics at school, but somehow not of it seems to stick. You should change the name of this thread to "the sustaining thread" Biggest thread I ever saw
  6. I'm interested in trying my hand on a sustainer. I've carefully followed PSW's advice not to read all the pages of this thread . These questions must have been answered plenty in the past, so I'm sorry if it's a bother. I have some questions on PSW's pictorial of the driver. 1. Could you make a list of what's needed? (I know everything is in the pictures, but I can't see exactly what you're using) 2. What's the right kind of magnet and where can I get this? 3. I can't see on your pictures what exactly you are putting together in what order, could you elaborate on that? 4. What kind of wire did you use? 5. As I'm not an electric miracle (I want to do this to learn a bit more about it) I don't get where and when you solder the connecting wires. Stupid questions I know, sorry 'bout that, but I hope you can answer them anyway. Cheers
  7. Mine has a piece missing in the back as well, maybe that's why I dig it so much
  8. Hey, that design looks great! What finish are you going for? The tuners you have, are they 3 x 3 or 6 on one side? Cheers
  9. Thank you for the info. It was just a small question, and imho related to the topic (in a similar way as: what made you use brown as a colour for example). And I believe this is a forum. Ontopic: Looking good so far! Really like the headstock as well.
  10. Looking good! Are you going to do the sides of the guitar as well?
  11. perhaps it's the language barrier, but are we talking about weed? Cheers (edit) but what does it mean in this context?
  12. Just out of curiosity, what CAD program do you use. I use Solid Works at school, but have no idea how to model a guitar in it. Especially the neck/heel and carved top would seem extremely diffucult to me. Cheers
  13. I've read through this thread, quite interesting! Now a question to see if what I learned out of this is correct: The sound of a combination of neck and bridge pickups on a two PU guitar is not the same as when you would put one pickup in the middle position? I plan on making a one pickup guitar in the near future. I love the sound of my current two pickup guitar in the middle position. I guess then the best place for my single pickup would be around the middle. I'll find out by trial and error, as I'm not a mathematical genius. Cheers
  14. I'd go for original. As long as it looks good at least
  15. Looks great, pardon my lack of knowledge. But what does a variax circuit do? Cheers!
  16. That's a pretty funky guitar! Thanks for the link. I like the colour on that one. Somehow the colour makes me think of glazed pottery . I'm in no rush to decide the details, as that's not even going to be my next project
  17. I looked up what a cocobolo fretboard looks like. One of those would look great on the stoveguitar!
  18. Sounds like a cool finish! Except that personally I wouldn't put a picture on it. But whatever suits you 'course
  19. Looking forward to seeing it with a burst!
  20. We should put this in the tutorial section: stoves are good for inspiration Thanks for the feedback, with cocobolo fretboard, do you mean with the green finish or my current guitar? Cheers
  21. I really like the way the shape is on one side a traditional shape, yet also a flame. Great Idea! I think the back looks fine as well, but somehow it seems like the body is very long. I noticed the top horn extends past the 12th fret. Just a sidenote, 'cause I think it looks good anyway. Cheers
  22. Just out of curiosity, where would you put the jack? Might be improved on the next model
  23. Probably because all smart people do for their first. Heck, I even bought my entire neck secondhand for my first (and 'till now only) and it's the best neck I ever had. Next project I'm going to try making the neck, but fretboard I'm still leaving well alone. (maybe the project after that)
  24. I am new to the subject of chambering. So bear with me my probably stupid question Does it make a difference if you cover the chamber? (I think it's most likely) For it could make for some cool visuals if you keep the chamber open. Cheers
