  1. I was getting kinda into this debate, Perry went a bit quiet after a while. Now what is everyones opinion on neck relief/bow? For very low action, due to the fact that a string vibrates most at its nodes (in the middle) then this suggests that a certain a mount of neck relif should be incorporated instead of a dead flat neck? any opinions? Matt
  2. Yea VERY good, what did you use for the recording and mixing? Matt
  3. I had a friend who had a saga PRS and he loved it especially the neck??
  4. Wow that nuked quilt looks awesome!!!!, if you find a way of doing that id REALLY like to know... great looking axe by the way!!
  5. To me it looks bl**dy ugly and stupid? why would you want that many strings and on a floating trem??? but then again this is how progress is made.... by trying out wacky ideas and designs. M
  6. sorry mate but nothing in life is free, you can get a free blueprint from www.jemsite.com under history. I'm making one at the moment so all I can say is do some searching around on the forum using the search button, and have a good trawl of the internet. good luck Matt
  7. brilliant thanks alot guys, im off to Australia in Dec for 6 mounths travelling and am contemplating wheather I have enough time to start/finish two similar projects before I go or if i leave it until I come back. Matt
  8. OK well I have looked in B&Q and I have a selection of cans and here is what im thinking to finish but some input would be greatly appreciated. Its hard to explain the exact shade/tone/style of black that I want buts it the sort of black that my phone is (samsung D500). Its not really glossy black like a classic black strat and its not matt like gothic guitars, its sort of a shiny matt if thats possible, similar to that of a black piano, but not quite as glossy) grain filler of some description... black primer (plasticote) black satin top coat (plasticote) sealer (either matt, satin, gloss im thinking satin??) (plastictote) is the sealer supposed to be a laquer? thanks Matt
  9. cheers dude. will sanding sealer not work for mahogany? when you say an epoxy filler will make the grain pop, do you mean stand out and look more pronounced? Thanks alot Matt
  10. right well basically Im just really confused over what the standard finishes involve in regards to what is put on and how much. Basically I want to finish a couple of guitars (poplar and mahogany) so that they have a sort od piano black colour (I think thats what its called, its not glossy or matt but a sort of shiny matt black?). So I was thinking of using spray cans. plasti-kote black satin actually, but could someone give me some basic advice, i.e. do I need an epoxy sealer thingy? sanding sealer? will I need to put a clear laquer on top of a black coat? Thanks alot Matt
  11. I found a brilliant webpage that had a program that let you design your dream axe and it had loads of the basic design applets e.g. Les paul, Strat, RG, Jem, Warlock....etc that you could click on, and then mod to your hearts content with different finishes/colours, trems, tuners. Anyway if anyone knows where to go for it then could they please point it out to me. Thanks alot Matt
  12. Warning to rhoads56 Id watch out before G. Bush invades you for your guitar.... It looks sooooo cool
  13. I just used a flap disc or sandpaper disc on an angle-grinder... did it in abot 2 mins, you gotta be careful tho as it takes it down REALLY quickly. and then I finished with a disc sander on a low speed drill then by hand.
  14. Well I have found some sepele (sp?) that is very similar to mahogany in the pile that we brought back which would be big enough for a couple of neck-thru blanks, so I might as well use that and then use the oak for body wings, which I shall chamber. Still though, what is oak and/or cedar meant to sound like in body and/or as a neck? thanks Matt
  15. Oh yea I know what he uses, I'm not trying to replicate it exactly, really its just got to be a good rythme all-round guitar, I was just interested in the use of Oak as its different and I have an abundance of it, thanks anyway. matt
  16. Ive just been to a saw mills with my Dad, and have managed to pickup nearly 3/4 tonne of oak and cedar for £15, we could have got a whole pallet (about 2.5 tonnes!!) for £30!! anyway my brother wants me to make him an axe similar to Hetfield's, soo Im thinking an European Oak body, chambered with cedar on top. Does this sound like a good plan or not? also Im thinking of an Oak neck as well but im not so sure. I know guitars are inherently expensive, but I want to make this as cheap as possible. Thanks Matt
  17. I hav some bodies that you can destroy..... I always hated those door-to-door salesmen.....
  18. I have a great piece of walnut which would make some great fretboards, but is walnut a good choice when it comes to fretboards and what will it sound like on a maple neck with poplar body? Thanks alot Matt
  19. Someone on here has made a fantastic lego PU winder, I suggest you do a search? matt
  20. Thanks very much for that!! how do the size of the slugs/screws alter the sound? I though having double rows of bolts/screws add bottom and top?
  21. Ok how much can i fit onto a Hummer bobbin of 42 and 43 guage?
  22. I have a guitar I made myself (first) and at the 12th I have an action of around 1-1.5mm and that has some, but very little rattle? But maybe you can prove all the critics wrong with a pic?
  23. Im thinking of finishing a guitar in car spray paint, is this a good idea? or what about Krylon spray cans, are they anygood? I have used Rustins plastic coating but in not overly pleased with it. Thanks Matt
