  1. the bassist does help the band sound the way they sound, yourright I guess I just don't pay attention to bass that much anywhere (which I really should cuz its what makes the music sound good)
  2. Bill Moll does hollow body archtops, I dont know about custom (body styles, he'll customize his own design for sure though) orders though. He's a great guy to work with and he's been doing it for a long time so he knows what he's talking about. http://www.mollinst.com if thats not waht your looking for, I would definitely go with ormsby or myka.
  3. gotta love "this is spinal tap" when the guitarist is playing and all the sudden you here a pilot landing through his amp. thats one of the greatest movies.
  4. www.mudvayne.com guys a killer singer, and the drummer kills also. Their appearance is kind of scary (no offense to people who like it) for me but the music rocks.
  5. the tone doesnt really matter (I dont mean it like it REALLY doesnt matter, I mean, I'm only using a bass for gigs/practices) and i play hard rock/grunge/heavy metal so the bass doesnt have any solos etc. and I probably will get something better as I start recognizing the differences between basses, amps, etc. Thanks for the opinions guys. I will probably just plug into the PA instead of getting an amp and eventually I'll probably save money up for a nice amp.
  6. well, we play gigs, so probably 100-200 watts would be ideal, but some lower woudl be acceptable too. The amp needs to be really cheap. I've heard of micing the bass amp into the PA, so I wouldnt see a problem with plugging straight into it, but I dont know. I dont want to try to find a new bass player for a couple reasons: 1.we need to make as smooth as transition as soon as possible and we already have a guitarist lined up for the part so we could switch really quick. 2.bassists hard to find 3.we're becoming a christian rock band and bassists are hard enough to find as it is, plus a nother requirement? 4.I'd like to not invite someone i dont know into my band because everyone else in the band is a pretty close-nit group of friends and i think on both ends of the rope it would be awkward to have this unknown bass player over there in the corner. 5.all the bassists I know are taken 6.its easier to play bass and sing than play guitar and sing at least in my style of music.
  7. Hey scott, I've got a set of no-name tuners(mint, 6 inline, right handed), and a noname TOM style bridge (chrome, slight wear) that I could give you for the gotohs. Its not much, but just seeing if you would take the offer. PM to let me know. Thanks.
  8. hey guys, my band has recently made the decision to thow out our current bass player and put me on bass (i CAN play bass, just havent done it seriously) and I had a few questions. I need to buy a bass and possibly a bass amp. I've got a PA, could I plug the bass directly into the PA mixer and have it work sufficiently? Also I've been looking for a bass that would be good (and I don't mean good for a beginner) for 300 dollars or less. I've been looking at this after being reccomended to it by a friend. I just wanted some other opinions on it, etc. I'm new to bass so I dont know what brands are good, etc. Comments are appreciated, thanks. Oh, and if the bass into PA thing wont work, what are some good amps that are cheap that I could use?
  9. I think that instead of a pinned topic, have just a section dedicated to reviews, then there would be a topic on a certain product. Then when someone wants to add more info on a product thats already there they would just add it to the already made topic. But if they wanted to add a review that wasnt already there, they would just add a topic. And before adding a topic they would use the search feature and if theres a review it shows up, if there is not, it doesnt. And there would have to be rules about posting a review like the brand and model name would have to be in the title spelled correctly etc. that way you could avoid confusion and multiple topics on the same product. I think it's a great idea if properly planned and executed.
  10. http://www.nymphusa.com/kisekae/kisekaeE1.asp i just put everything I wanted on, then took it to photoshop and put in the pic inlay and flipped it around.
  11. I searched for the old topic but I couldn't find it. So sorry to the mods. My plan was to make an upside down RR copy with 2 Humbuckers an on and off switch, and no knobs. That has changed a little bit. It's going to be 2 HB, and one single coil. Each pickup will have an on and off switch (these switches will be placed out of the way on the side)and a master switch (placed by the knobs like an SG) and 4 volume knobs (each pickup plus one master volume), these knobs will be placed on the top like a LP or SG would have them. The guitar is going to have a mahogany body with a flame maple veneer dyed blood red with back sides and back. A maple/purpleheart laminate will be what the neck is made out of, with a rosewood fingerboard (24 3/4" scale) with a guitar pick inlayed across the 11th, 12th, and 13th fret and white side markers. The bridge will be a black TOM wraparound tailpeice. I'm not sure about strap buttons yet. The neck will be bolt on. thats the virtual pic of it. (crappy imitation of the pick inlay) heres the body about a third through the sanding of the edges. I never knew it took this long to get it flush and even. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v461/gle...ai/DSCN0162.jpg heres the pics of the wood for the neck, and the pre slotted fingerboard from stewmac: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v461/gle...ai/DSCN0163.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v461/gle...ai/DSCN0164.jpg any suggestions, comments, questions etc. are welcome.
  12. i really need a better wah pedal. i got a second hand crybaby at a pawn shop for 60 bucks and it barely works, its so bad. and hte switch is so hard to get to switch. I'm thinking about just modding it to be a volume pedal and buying a weeping demon. that or a behringer hellbabe HB01. I'm gonna test run them both at my local music shop and see which one is better. I'm assuming its going to be the weeping demon because its 60 dollars more expensive, but price isnt everything so yeah. any body use the behringer hell babe? its supposed to be a lot like the dimebag crybaby from hell.
  13. sorry guys i just went through a big move so i havent been able to work on it, but i started sanding today and will finish the edge sanding tomorow and will get some pics up asap. i will start the enck sometime next week and do the neck pocket and cavity routing after the neck. i was wondering if any of you have ever used a stationary belt sander to do the profile of a neck. also, what would be the easiest way to do the bevels on this bad boy. (remember its a RR so the lines are pretty straight)
  14. so true, the main idea is to make yourself look and sound powerful. if your voice is shaky and ur looking around the room like the audience wants to kill you people will think your some kid who has no experience whatsoever and you'll be boring. if you mess up you need to just play it off like it was a part of the song. we played heart shaped box by nirvana and right after the second chorus im thinking the songs over but i still got the solo and a whole nother verse and chorus. so about halfway through me playing the outro and the other guitar just sitting back lettin me play (that might have looked odd but there are other parts in other songs that he'll play and not me so not too bad) i realize this and thank god theres 2 guitars cuz he started playing the background for the solo right when i realized it so i just let him play it through once and went on like nothing happened. noone noticed at all.
  15. woah, if i made it seem like i was heated don't worry I wasnt. I was just responding. my bad.
  16. I already knew the songs, to learn them as a BAND is a bit different, to learn a song as a band there is no easy song unless the whole song is a chorus and no verses or bridges. You have to have the song memorized by the whole band or youve got drummers tapping on the high hat 2 measures into the chorus full of nirvana style screaming. We didnt have trouble learning the riffs and drum tracks, it was the order the parts went in etc. we played a total of 6 songs I think, 3 nirvana songs, 2 seether songs, and 1 original song. and BTW i sang and played at the same time which is twice the difficulty.
  17. My band had its first (not including battle of the bands last year) gig on friday. I dont really know what to say. It was definitely fun, but as to our performance, I mean we played mostly nirvana so its not like we messed up very much, but there was just something about it, I dunno I think we just didnt have enough time to practice. It was only about half an hour and we didnt get paid. We opened for a band called slugtrail who killed us in volume and in skill. They were this really heavy death metal band stoned out of their minds but they still killed us. They did say that they werent half as good as us when they were our age (from 14-16) though. I think it was a good experience and we learned all the songs as a band in about two weeks so all things considered I think we did pretty good. I was just wanting to hear some first gig stories if you all have any that are interesting. BTW mine was a birthday party (girl turing 14) at a skatepark. I played an Ibanez GIO (my drummers guitar, none of mine are presentable right now) through a ibanez distortion pedal and a crybaby wah and a gorilla amp.
  18. nice, love the perfect circle/tool influence in the vocals. but I agree with the above statement, better recording quality woudl be great.
  19. some old gibsons (from the ES seires I believe) were wired sterio with different signals for each pickup. Also some rickenbackers too.
  20. dude, I would love to see more purple heart impalers it gives it that kinda anti-stereotype feel, its a heavy metal guitar... in purple! it would be way too plain with an all black finish, unless it was matte black with some tribal red design or something, but you know what matt, its your guitar right?
  21. I swear, my dad has that exact same AM FM tuner, and the EQ in his machine shop. Nice work, I'm not a big fan of the wood, but thats just my opinion. I like the machine too.
  22. dude, korge, it takes a lot to design a guitar like matt has done, then to actually build it perfectly, like he has done, its a huge accomplishment. Then to say it looks liek a run over peice of maple with black electronics is not only mean, its actually kind of ignorant. Dude, its not even made out of maple... and BTW, the "unicorn spike" is actually in the shape of a blade on a dagger or spear, again if you knew anything about medievil weapons (which in this case I don't even know much about them, but I do know that doesn't look like a freakin unicorn spike) you'd know. BTW Matt, great guitar, I can't wait to see the next one, keep up the killer work.
  23. i might be able to get pictures up soon, gotta wait for the digital camera to get cleared off.
