  1. Joe- your email bounced back. Try from a different account. Thanks.
  2. You can contact Ibanez tech support and they can fax you a wiring diagram. Email me and I'll get you their 800 number.
  3. Yeah...it's called Supply vs. Demand. There's zero demand for SureClaws right now, so....why should a shop carry 200 of them? :-) I spoke with AllParts today. It seems $35 is the best price they can do on special order SureClaws now. With the US dollar sucking wind, prices on overseas parts sucks. The other problem is delivery. No one knows if Schaller can have them delivered by July 4th weekend, or by X-mas. It's anyone's guess. With all that, I'll still keep an eye out for the NOS ones that folks have, or the pre-owned ones. Slighty cheaper, and quicker delivery. It'd be a shame if they became extinct; it's a fairly cool design. I'd be cool to incorporate the Tremol-No into it, maybe.....one day....down the road somewhere. :-)
  4. Damn. $35 ea? That's a bit rough. That's kinda why I posted. I figured there were a few folks that had bought them prior to the 'embargo', but never installed them, and would now like to part with them for a $20 or so. I'll check in with AllParts and see what I can do. Alex- How about the SureClaw + cash? Tremol-No's cost me about $950 ea. right now....so that'd be...$915, minus shipping. Sound good? LOL
  5. The correct model designation is: JEM77FP (Floral Pattern). What do you mean by "RG50" neck? The neck has been replaced? On an orignal JEM77FP, the maple neck has a rosewood board with green vine inlay and a fabric-matched headstock. $700 CDN isn't terrible, depending on condition/OHSC/etc.
  6. I've not worked with camphor burl before, so I don't know about it's corrosive properties. But I do know that this type of wood is considered "driftwood" over on Jemsite. Well, so says the site owner. (damn that felt good)
  7. Sorry folks- my source just crapped out. I thought they were sending me a SureClaw. Instead, I got something kinda like an Ibanez Backstop, apparently made by Schaller. If I do find a source here in the US, I'll let ya know.
  8. Actually, the Tremol-No is a Floyd users best friend. I'm working on a connection to a bunch of new ones. I'll keep you updated. They should be at "blow out" prices too, since no one in the US is carrying them any more.
  9. I liked it so much, it got deleted. Sorry, but that falls under "inappropriate". AIDS is ***nothing*** to joke about. If you read back a few pages, you'll see that I said when Brian gives me the all-clear that he's happy with the board, THEN I'll go in and ditch the post count. Brian hasn't given me the all-clear yet, and I'm still waiting for some info from the Invision people. That means, you get to wait. Thanks for being patient everyone.
  10. Hey all...update time! Let's see what we have here: - NAMM was a huge success. Everyone that checked out the Tremol-No loved it, and a few factories have asked to build it. I'm working with them and their reps. They've got complete drawings, and should have some build samples back to me shortly. Let's hope they make good, tight tolerance stuff. - New pic and quote up for Big Nasty. He's been crazy busy with the band recording, playing, and a new baby on the way. Both his JEM and his Dime are Tremol-No equipped. He says they're working great and really, REALLY help with tracking in the studio. Keep an eye on his band, Tin Henry. If they get the right exposure, they could go places. - The US Copyright office was kind enough to send me my copyright certificate!!! "Tremol-No" is now officially a copyright owned by me. Pretty cool, eh? I picked up a nice frame for it today and put it on the 'file cabinet of fame', right next to all the other important paperwork. Well, actually the only other thing there is the article from Vintage Guitar, but...hey...it's a start. - I had a very nice conversation earlier this week with John Suhr. All you veterans surely know his name, and you new builders should learn it. John is ex-Pensa-Suhr (made guitars for guys like Mark Knopfler and Reb Beach), ex-Custom Audio Electronics (John was #2 at Mr. Bradshaw's magic-making shop), and then went on to run the Fender Custom Shop. The guy can build a guitar....and an amp. :-) Very nice guy, and would really like to offer the Tremol-No as an option on some of his models. For a guy like me that's admired John's work since the Pensa days, it was a major honor for me to talk to him. He's a very cool guy, very into building great guitars, and maybe we can work together in the future, making his fantastic guitars even more fantastic-er (if that's a word). Well, that's it for updates. We've got 4 different factories getting samples back to me and some potenial licensees, so we get to wait a little while longer. Sorry about that, but I'd rather wait a few more weeks and get you guys a quality product, than rush it and have you get a POS that breaks after 2 trem dives. It'll be worth the wait. I promise. More updates to come!
  11. I'm looking to buy several Schaller Sure Claw units. New or old, condition is unimportant (but I'll pay more for new ones...heh heh). Email: kevan@jemfest.com Include asking price and condition. Pics are ok too. Thanks.
  12. Southpa- GOOD ADIVCE! Masking tape is your friend when it comes to soldering. Use 2 or 3 layers as protection. It's a little time consuming, but it sure beats having a "fry spot" on your finish. If you like the automatic wire strippers that came with your ColdHeat, check out the uber-badass set that PartsExpress has. It's fine tune-able. Pretty slick.
  13. Soldering takes practice. Lots and LOTS of practice. Like others have suggested, some sort of magnifying setup (either a large desk-mounted glass type), or a headband setup like this: http://www.tedpella.com/7252.htm $27...not bad, and cheaper than StewMac's version. There are craft and hobby stores that sell "Extra Hands"-type vises. Those are very helpful when you find yourself in some kooky yoga position trying to get that last wire grounded....burned toe nail....ouch! I agree with the others about the ColdHeat being for soldering veterans. It's actually a different way to solder than the old school method. I really do like it's precision and cleanliness. Yes- the tips are fragile, but if you do chip them, you can file them down "even" again, and they will work fine. I like Southpa's template idea, esp. when doing completely new wiring. It'll help you get the right lengths cut, keeping the elec. cavity looking clean. Don't forget safety! Keep a fan running, blowing the solder fumes away from you. Some light gloves will keep your hands burn-free, and ALWAYS wear eye protection. Unlike that lady who ordered the coffee from McDonalds, we all know that solder (molten metal) is HOT. Be smart around it, and you'll be fine. The other cool part about learning to solder is that you can then go and build your own cables- instrument, spreakens, rack cables, etc. George L. eat your heart out.
  14. Garage- thanks for your post man. You saved me a ton of typing. :-) With Fender's blatant lack of enforcement, even in the last decade, I don't see them being granted anything. Plus, it'd leave the whole basement empty at NAMM. LMAO Perry- you'd first have to get past the owner of the PEZ trademark- Pez Candy, Inc. LOL LukeR- If you're going to hand out legal advice, please preface each of your posts with "According to Australian IP law...", or something to that effect. While the laws regarding copyrights, trademarks and patents are somewhat similar the world over, specifics can vary drastically depending on the country you're filing in. You might want to hold back for a while until you've got a few filings under your belt. That's not meant offensively; just a suggestion so you can see how the whole thing works- copyrights, trademarks, patents, PCT, international patents, etc. I'm not claiming to be an expert on this, but I have certainly learned a pantload about this over the last 3 years.
  15. This is old news. EVH's departure from Peavey was announced (albeit prematurely by Charvel) at Summer NAMM 2004. A *S E A R C H* here or on Google will yield you fantastic results. ..and thus... THREAD CLOSED.
  16. Great post, LGM. Dave- with regard to Fender and their designs.... The last I heard, FMIC was trying (very hard) to get design patents and trademarks on the Strat, Tele, P-Bass and Jazz Bass body shapes. Considering the Strat is 51 years old, and the Tele even older, I *highly* doubt their requests will be granted. The Strat/Tele/J- & P-Bass names and headstock shapes are already covered under US trademarks. If FMIC does plan on going ahead with the design patent/trademark thing, there's a HUGE consortium of builders, suppliers, and other companies that are prepared to fight it tooth and nail.
  17. Sure man....if you say so. My theory knowledge is pretty limited. Actually, it's extremely limited.
  18. Well, let's see what we've got here.... -Simon is in Australia. -Wes is in TX. -Kev is in OH, and barely sleeps. That seems like decent coverage to me. The Forum is growing quickly, and a new moderator will be needed soon. If the Tremol-No starts taking up more and more of my time, I might have to relinquish my duties (stop cheering, people), in which case 4 moderators would be needed. I know that Brian has a couple of guys in mind for positions, so we'll see what happens.
  19. Good call, Wes! I do it with F-B-F though. Upsets many. :-) One of my favorites: E--8 B--8 G--9 D--8 A--9 E--8
  20. Crafty- thanks man! Regarding the hole spacing: Are the 4 holes on 7/16" corners? As in, they are each (approx.) 7/16" from the center of the hole to the nearest edge of the plate? EDIT- Oops...make that 3/8" corners instead of 7/16". Sorry.
  21. Hey all! I've got a new project in the works, but I can't get started on it until I get some dimensions. Unfortunately, my only Strat neck plate is in Texas and won't be back for a couple of weeks, so I'm here to ask for a hand... Can some one post the exact dimesions (millimeters or inches) of a regular Strat neck plate? The measurements I need are: - Length - Width - Thickness - Hole spacing (edge-to-center) - Hole diameter If anyone can score me those, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everyone!
