  1. Absolutely, because I just don't get it. Unless you're "hanging" the guitar by the nut "area" in a HORIZONTAL postion (like you're putting a pizza in an oven with it), I don't see how it could go flat. Maybe it's got new strings and they haven't been stretched out? I'm grasping here....I can't come up with anything. Certainly not anything that relates to a guitar being hung on a guitar hangar. Back to the Larrivee thing: 1. That newsgroup message you linked to is from 1998. :-) 2. Oops....looks like their voiding their own warranty before they even sell them- http://www.12fret.com/new/larrivee_SD-60_SH_guitar.html 3. A Japanese guy caught some Larrivee's hung at a NAMM show: http://www.soundhouse.co.jp/show/namm2003s...stic_guitar.htm (...wow...most other guitar makers hang them as well....interesting.) 4. And from Ishibashi more from the NAMM 2003 shots: http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/report/namm2003/48.htm Man, that's a lot of voided warranties right there....on some pricey guitars! LGM- how about some shots from your local store that has them? :-) Or are we done here?
  2. Actually, the first section of the clip is a flub by my buddy Pete. If you watch carefully, you'll see/hear him drop the Tremol-No on the floor and we begin to crack up. Then comes the real version. :-) I haven't tried it with it mounted in a guitar yet. I'll need to get better talent than "Butterfingers Pete" before I shoot it.
  3. ...and I got that by going to FleaBay and typing "JEM body" in the front page search box and hitting ENTER. HARDCORE searching....whew....I need a nap.
  4. I never said my ShredCam setup was the end-all, be-all of camera mounts. It's just another option for folks out there. I also liked the quick-fix to your current tripod. Simple, cheap, painless...and it works. Easy enough. Done. It's not. It's actually very uncomfortable to play with that mount on for any length of time. Imagine the 7th fret directly underneath your belly button. Yeah...kind of a pain to play that way, but it gets me the shot I need. I have some other video of the ShredCam mounts in use: http://www.jemfest.com/misc/MiscVids/ShredCam1.avi This was the day after I machined the first gimble block. My buddy Iain and I were heading out to Jemfest in Florida that night and gave the mount a little test. Not heard on the clip is Iain asking, "How can you play with all that crap on the guitar?"....then my answer is heard. The 2nd clamp on the back of the Strat is the counterbalance (with the two C-clamps for weight). We weren't going for good looks yet; we just wanted to see how well it worked. Unfortunately, we never found the time to get them mounted to any of the artists guitars at Jemfest that year, but we're gonna try like hell in 2005! You have no idea...heh heh... Well, we can do some stuff, as long as we stick to those ideas that are guitar-related.
  5. Dude, do you store your guitars in some reverse-gravity chamber? Alternate universe? Wormhole? Blackhole? How in the holyhell does the tuning go FLAT if it's being PULLED on? That officially defies the laws of physics Also, what kind of guitar are you using? Strat? Larrivee? Acoustic? Electric? Double-neck? Steinberger? Bowser- I need time to bring the wet/dry vac up from the shop.
  6. Yep. The other guitarist in the band is Rich Ward, from Stuck Mojo. So, expect some heavy, HEAVY riffs. Thanks. Let me know what you thought of Mike's performance. I'll pass it along to him.
  7. You've got a better way of getting a stable shot of the rear of the trem while someone's playing the guitar? I'd LOVE to see it. And for the record, this.... ....was not sarcastic. It was a legit compliment.
  8. Ok....updates.... First the biggie: Tremol-No endorsee/player Mike Martin is now the new lead guitarist for Fozzy. For those that don't know of Fozzy, check out: http://www.fozzyrock.com Mike called me last week to let me in on the good news....and the other GREAT news: Monday, Dec. 6th, Mike and the rest of Fozzy will be on WWE's "Raw" performing live! Mike has the Tremol-No in his #2 guitar, so let's hope for a string break! LOL- just kidding. Check your local listings to see when it's on (I think it's the Spike Channel at 9PM). If anything, it's funny to watch the guys "wrestle". BTW- 5,000,000 people each week watch the WWE. Not bad exposure, eh? The other update is to the FAQ page. I got an email from Steve Blucher at DiMarzio about this, so my buddy Pete and I shot a quick video. http://www.tremol-no.com/faq.html (last question listed) Sorry that it's WMV, but the thousands that I blew on pro video editing software just doesn't seem to be able to compress files without them looking like a Rorschach test. No new licensing news. I'm waiting just like you folks. Enjoy the updates!
  9. UPDATE: Hangar tutorial is done and can be found here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=12806 Sure. Just give me 20 min. notice so I can get the underwear off the floor... I also changed the settings for the Polls area. Single votes will NOT bump topic; only actual posts will. Enjoy.
  10. Lions Claw is the special routing of the 6 channels behind the trem. There are examples (and tutorials) about the Lions Claw all over this site. A little searching goes a long way. UV is the model designation for the Ibanez Universe 7-string guitars. - Tummy Cut (silly name, BTW) is the comfort cut on the back side of the guitar. A little wood is removed to make it more comfortable to hold the guitar against the body. - Forearm Cut is the rounded edge on the face of the guitar where your forearm rests while in the playing position. Then why not get one from the guy that co-designed the original JEM? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW I'm pretty sure all of his are under $200. Mahogany, Alder...ready to be finished. Monkey- you need to start doing a little searching/research on your own. In the Classifieds section on this very forum, this topic is a sticky right at the top: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=11693 I don't mind helping, but I do mind spoon-feeding. Good luck with your project!
  11. Where? http://www.larrivee.com/data/warranty/warranty.html I scanned the rest of the site and couldn't find anything about hangars. If you'd like, I can give them a call tomorrow and find out the facts.
  12. I was the head of the Service Dept. for these guys: http://www.sachtler.com/ I think I've got tripods covered (as well as the rest of the camera support options. LOL) Here's a cool little rig I call the Shred Cam: http://tremol-no.com/images/P5130029.JPG It's a basic quick clamp, a custom made (by me) alum. clamping block that can be positioned along the clamp arm, and a gimble from a $9 webcam tripod. The gimble can be mounted horizontally or vertically on the alum. clamping block. I have two of them so I can shoot simultaneous front and rear trem movements. :-) Nice repair (modification?) on yours, Soap!
  13. Yeah, but on page two it says: "We currently have a thirty day waiting list for guitar bodies because of the extreme amount of orders." I'd suggest Darren/ATD or EKG. A few bucks more but, no wait time and quality assurance.
  14. Because quality doesn't put gas in the Ferrari, pay for the house in Bermuda, or cover the rent on the mistresses apartment. I do agree with you though. A $69 guitar will go exactly that far. I would advise her that she's going to get what she pays for. It's going to sound like poo, play like poo, and she might even end up disliking guitar. Your advice for her to save for a few days/weeks/months and invest in something a little more quality-based is sound (no pun intended). For 3x the money, she can have 10x the guitar, all the while sounding decent, and enjoying her play time. WalMart has a pretty good return policy, don't they? If you can, go with her to the local guitar store and Austin-Powers-Judo-Chop all the sales guys that come within 10' of her. Give her a hand picking something decent out. Hint: Don't start in the Taylor/Martin section. LOL Check out the pre-owned gear first.
  15. The neck is under string tension no matter what positon it's in- hung by the wings of the headstock, resting in a side-mount, being played, in a case. There's always string tension as long as it's strung up. - If you hung a guitar by the strap button on the back, would it go out of tune/affect the neck? - If you hung a guitar by it's strap from a clothes line (inside, of course), would it go out of tune/affect the neck? I think that as long as there is not a point of contact or force on the back of the neck or the fingerboard pushing in either direction, hanging a guitar from it's headstock does no damage to the guitar itself. You're welcome to stop by here anytime and test out any of my guitars. As long as it doesn't go from 80F to 30F in an hour, they're all rock solid. Here's a little preview of the Hangar Tutorial: http://tremol-no.com/images/hangars/WALL007.JPG (the EGYPT *was* on a hangar at one time; now it's got it's own special glass case) I couldn't find the old pics I did 3 years ago for that 'other site', so I'll do a new CAD image for you guys with the numbers and stuff. They're pretty simple, and very strong. EDIT- HANGAR TUTORIAL IS HERE: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=12806 Soap- how about the case storage one I'm gonna do? I'm sure you'd like to get all those cases out of the way, no? I'll check into the vote bumping. That annoys me too.
  16. Hey, I'm just going by what I've seen at shows. The ones that are on hangars don't get fumbled-stumbled-bumbled; they just get hung up. I'll agree with you though- there is no accounting for what a human being can do. I've seen guys try to figure out a door knob. I've seen people wonder why the sun comes up. It's kinda odd that I always seem to be behind these people when I'm driving.... Try this: Have 20 guys try to get a side-mount guitar back on the mount, and have 20 guys try to get a guitar back on a hangar. Post the results. The floor ones are.....alright. Yes they're safe because gravity errors are minimized, but the Chip & Ding Factor goes up drastically. Especially if the phone rings. We're talking about a piece of wood designed to work with 100 lbs.+ of tension and you believe that 6-8 lbs of guitar, held onto that piece of wood by 4 large wood screws, is going to alter that piece of wood in some way? Unless you have something applying force to the back of the neck (or to the front), the only factor here is gravity. You're not going to wake up one morning and have a baritone because it's hung on a hangar. The only line we're dealing with is up and down, and since it's gravity-based, it's going down. I'm sorry but I don't see any harm coming from holding the guitar vertically by the headstock. I also don't see any harm in the side mount or floor mounts either, as long as no one touches them. Huh? I'll try to get them up this weekend. I want to make sure the wood I used hasn't streched out from being hung these past two years. LOL Huh?
  17. I'm not quite following where you're getting this reverse tension from. If a guitar is hanging by it's headstock, where is the tension on the back of the neck? I see gravity coming into play due to the vertical nature of the hanging, but I don't see anything else in the equasion that would cause the neck to relief or backbow, or otherwise mis-shape it. Am I missing something?
  18. LMAO. It's funny that you believe that type to be the safest. I'll have to put my vote in for that type being the least safe. Many guitar manuf's have those side-mounts for their displays at NAMM. I've watched dealers, artists, and even company employees fumble, stumble, scratch/ding/dent, and even dump the guitar before they got it sitting in there correctly. It's only amusing to watch when it's not your guitar. :-) I've had mine hung for weeks at a time with ZERO tuning change, and no one has ever mis-mounted it. Ever. If you feel the "side mount" is better than the "hangar mount", then go for it. It's all you, my man. I'm sticking with my hangars.
  19. Silly? Yeah, but then again there wasn't much else to do. The movers hadn't shown up with the furniture yet, so....there was all this empty space....camera batteries were charged.... For the record, it took Rachel more than an hour to place those guitars on me. She's more protective of them than I am. She giggles when she hears Rich Harris say "oh yeah, it's mint". And, ALL of my guitars get play time. Yes- even the EGYPT. Tonight, it's the RG-PAINT up here with me. Soap- I picked up on your sarcasm there. If you have any questions about the care I take of my instruments, or the condition any of them are in, PLEASE ask anyone here that's seen them. I'm not overly-protective, but I do have one rule: "DON'T F-ING DROP IT!". I put up a VERY NICE tutorial, with drawings, on 'that other site' a few years ago of some very nice wall hangars. Simple, cheap, effective, and they won't mark the neck joint over time like some hangars do. If you folks would like it up here, just let me know and I'll dig up the pics and post it again. I'll also add my cool (and super-cheap) case storage setup. 2-for-1!
  20. My favorite? http://www.ibanezregister.com/images/groups/alive02.jpg Which one? Yes. Why? Oh, there are so many reasons.
  21. He as in "Ned", or He as in "Ed"? (I know which it is, I just thought the rest of the forum should know too)
  22. Heh heh...just wait until the first time you do have to deal with him. Your views will change dramatically. His customer service is right below Microsoft's (only because ER doesn't bill you for the phone call). You will be treated like a piece of meat with money. Don't expect anything else. There are tons of other resources out there (I find them...). I'm simply suggesting folks avoid ER whenever possible. He hoardes some rare parts/gear, and prices it thru the roof, so it's sometimes a necessary evil. But 99.9% of the time, you can get it (info, parts, etc) elsewhere. Sorry for the detour folks. Let's get back to Perry's kickazz "baritone-ish" guitar.
  23. Well, StewMac has two different types of truss rods: - Traditional - HotRod The Traditional is a very basic truss rod that can be cut to your desired length. The HotRod offers a couple of different options for adjustment heads (for a Tele, I'd go with the slotted head or the 1/8" head). Then you can choose the length you need. It's your call.
  24. We might have to start a new rule: "Anyone quoting Ed Roman in a non-mocking fashion will receive an immediate lifetime ban from the forum." It won't happen tonight, but it could be on the list in the near future.
